This place is somewhat of a hidden gem, as you need to follow a well-lit alleyway from the main street and take the elevator to the 4th floor of the building. This restaurant is amazing, and well worth the price. Their servers and owner speak great English, and explain the process to you in case you're unsure of how it works. You have about 100 minutes to eat as much as you can handle, and there is no unused meat/food penalty charge.
The restaurant is small but very clean, with complimentary hand sanitizer and gloves to wear while at the food bars.
They have three AYCE options - all pork cuts; pork and beef cuts; and pork, beef, and Japanese beef, in which all three options range from around ¥3500-4800 per person, depending on which meal option you choose. Each option includes unlimited meat, rice, soft drinks, coffee and iced coffee or latte, a salad bar, and ice cream as well, so you get quite a lot of food for your money! Beers and bottled drinks are a la carte, but up to 4 beers are included in the meal options so you can choose what is more economical for you depending on how much you like to drink.
You have a couple options for your hot pots, two being the most popular: Shabu Shabu, which is like a hot soup-like broth to cook the thinly sliced meat and veggies in, or my personal favorite, Sukiyaki, which is like a thickened sweet and salty soy sauce to cook your thinly sliced meat and veggies in. If your party wishes to have both, they have partitions they can put inside the pot so you can enjoy your individual choices.
They have a decent selection of veggies like cabbage, mushrooms, onions, leeks, and seasonal veggies, as well as flavorful add-ins and aromatics like portioned udon noodles, dumplings, garlic paste, minced ginger, chili oil, etc.
The quality of meat is very good, the service is fantastic (each table has a call button and the servers are very quick to respond), and the view is nice if you choose to sit by the windows.
I highly recommend this place for Shabu Shabu or Sukiyaki, especially if it's your first time in Japan and want to try new things! We ate everything so fast we forgot to tak...
Read moreAfter 5 trips to Japan in the last 10 years I can tell you that this restaurant was my worst experience. And reading the bad reviews I now understand why: it’s a place that doesn't want foreigners but is happy to take great advantage of them.
It was a 14’520 yens (!!) « do it yourself » dinner that we had to eat in 25 mins.
It’s true we arrived quite late - at 9:45 p.m. But they still agreed to serve us, specifying that the last order would be at 10:00 p.m. In a normal restaurant, the timing is fine.
Except that this restaurant only offers "all you can eat". It’s genius to accept two people who could only serve themselves twice MAXIMUM by paying the full price… And the waitress was pushing us to take the "all you can drink" too because she knew perfectly well that we would have to pay the full price again (2’000 per person) without being able to enjoy it. Thank God we didn't listen to her. Because at 10:00 p.m. it was impossible to order again. So it was a « all you can read and order » in 10 mins :)
I've had shabu shabu in Japan before and the vegetables were pre-prepared on a plate - you just had to dip them in the broth. Here you have to go to a buffet so the time loss is considerable. At 10:10 p.m. we were just starting to eat. At 10:31 p.m. the waitress came to take us from the table.
Don’t get me wrong, they had told us that the restaurant would close at 10:30 p.m.
However I can’t believe that 1/ they took us in while knowing it was impossible to manage 2/ pushed us to take the all you can drink that we could never have benefit from 3/asked us to leave while seeing perfectly that we didn’t have eaten half of our serving.
A 15-min extra time would have allowed us to finish and to respect us. Because when you take customers in charging them that badly, then you should bear the responsibility to serve...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Nabezo Asakusa in Tokyo, Japan, and it was an unforgettable experience. My wife and I decided to try shabu shabu for the first time, and it turned out to be a delightful culinary adventure. One of the highlights of our visit was our server, Ami, whose exceptional service truly made the evening special. From the moment we walked in, Ami warmly welcomed us and patiently guided us through the shabu shabu cooking process. Her expertise and friendliness made us feel right at home, and she ensured we had the best possible dining experience. What truly stood out was the dedication of the staff. Even though we arrived close to closing time, they graciously accommodated us and never rushed our meal. Their commitment to customer satisfaction was remarkable and greatly appreciated. The shabu shabu itself was a revelation. The quality of the ingredients was outstanding, and we relished the opportunity to cook our meal to perfection at our own table. The flavors were exquisite, and we left with a newfound appreciation for this traditional Japanese dining style. Nabezo Asakusa not only offers delicious cuisine but also a welcoming and memorable dining experience. I can't recommend this restaurant enough, especially if you're looking to try shabu shabu for the first time. The warm hospitality of the staff, including our wonderful server Ami, made our visit truly exceptional. Thank you, Nabezo Asakusa and AMI, for an unforgettable evening filled with delectable food and outstanding service. We can't wait to return for another delightful...
