This was the first place i ever stayed in during my first trip to Japan. My flight was delayed so i ended up arriving at 5pm, no big deal. I got a RFId Tag which unlocks the main door just by standing close to it and the staff disclosed that if i wanted to get in after 11pm i would have to use the password device.
They also disclosed that the bath was public and they also disclosed the fact it would be under maintenance outside functioning hours to avoid any inconveniencies with the guests.
I am not an expert on these kind of facilities but 24 beds for a single floor seemed like quite a bit much. I stayed on the 7th floor on a bottom bunk.
The bed itself was ok and the blanket was a bit too thick for the room temperature so i just set it aside. I had (just barely) enough space to fit in as i could touch the curtains but it was no major issue. The somewhat cold air from the AC could enter my capsule and cool it a bit. I also bought a usb fan which definitely helped me sleep (besides being completely exhausted from all the walking)
There was some space left for my personal bag inide the capsule which was nice. I could sleep next to it with no issue (skill issue if you could not tbh)
The capsule also has a couple hangers for whatever clothing you have on you and maybe a fanny pack which was nice too.
At least my floor had some safety lockers for my passport. Easy to use and that was my only valuable with me. If you're traveling with jewelry i would advise against doing that (skill issue)
I've seen other complaints regarding the power outlets which i agree it is true. You might need to charge two things at the same time which is either hard or downright impossible. In my case it was just my phone with the power outlet and either my power bank or smart watch, which i could do without any issues using the USB Port next to the power outlet. If you're using a laptop or something like that it might become an issue. (skill issue)
The bathrooms were clean and located at the same floor. The toilets themselves have heated seats and controls on the wall.
The PUBLIC BATH was really good. It has a sauna which has a 12 mintue timer so you don't overexetend. Then the tub and then the typical japanese shower/bath. They offer instructio on what to do but not the order itself, no big deal. The sauna hit just right specially after doing some calisthenics, the hot tub also felt really good and helped me relax and the shower had from ice cold water to literal fire. The hostel also provides shampoo, conditioner and soap for each shower. Using these was scary at first but then i had no major issue with the nudity.
Overall it was a nice experience and the location is REALLY GOOD. For the price i would most definitely come back. If you're gonna share a room with others bring earplugs man. (SKILL ISSUE) You My only ""complaint"" is the staff but for the price i would not expect them to do much besides...
Read moreBy far the worst hostel experience of my life. Please avoid. For several different reasons which I have listed below. However the main reason was a staff worker who was present for the entirety of my stay. It started as I asked reception to change a bill to use the laundry machine. The staff worker (younger male with dark hair) gave me a dirty look and said "that's not within our services". After finally getting coins, I used the laundry machine just before the cleaning hours were over and the floor had already been cleaned. The staff worker proceeded to come find me and scold me for not obeying the policy and tell me what a disrespectful person I am and that he's been watching me on cctv. He proceeded to shun and ignore me for the rest of my stay. Completely unprofessional behaviour for such a minor incident. Especially for someone working in a hotel/hostel.
These were the other reasons:
They kick you out of the building after you've checked out. I watched as 3 different people who had checked out and sat in the lounge were then told to leave the building. All of the people were confused and upset by this to which the same staff member responded "that's just your opinion, this is our policy".
The bed is not a single mattress. Rather these 3 mattress blocks that start to slide apart throughout the night. Extremely uncomfortable and very bizarre decision by the hostel to use them. The pods also get quite warm and stuffy throughout the night.
The rooms are gross and covered with clothes and bags everywhere. Mainly because there is no place to store luggage properly. There are also about 25-30 people per room. Which is standard for capsule rooms but this hostels layout led to a lot more noise and disruption every night.
There are no lockers for luggage or bags. The locker is about the size of a phone. There are also no IC cards to access the room. Anyone can walk right in and access any floor. There are also no storage lockers for...
Read moreI booked a 10-night stay at Hotel Plus Hostel Tokyo Asakusa 1 through Agoda and left after just 2 nights due to a series of serious issues. This was one of the worst hospitality experiences I’ve had in over a decade of international travel.
Here’s what actually happened: • The Wi-Fi advertised in the listing was completely nonfunctional. I rely on internet access for work and travel, and this alone would have warranted a refund. • The rooms were unbearably hot, with no functional ventilation or climate control. It felt like sleeping in a sealed box during summer. • Contrary to the way the listing was written, there were no private baths—only a shared public bath, which was never made explicitly clear. • None of these issues were disclosed at check-in. • I immediately raised these concerns with a staff member named Akira, who acknowledged them and said they’d be fixed. Nothing was resolved.
I left the property the following morning and informed staff that I would be seeking a refund due to false advertising and unlivable conditions. They refused, citing an internal policy—even though their listing failed to reflect the actual experience.
To make matters worse, they later falsely claimed I had never raised any complaints and tried to shift blame onto me. This is not just poor service—it’s outright dishonesty.
Since they refused to take responsibility, I’ve: • Filed a chargeback • Submitted a formal dispute with Agoda • Reported them to the Japanese Consumer Affairs Agency
I’m sharing this review so future travelers aren’t misled. This hotel is not transparent, does not take accountability, and does not deliver what it advertises. You may think you'll save a few dollars staying here—but you’ll actually have to pay more for it in frustration, wasted time, a ruined experience, and needing to move somewhere...
