Had quite high expectations on this one since recent reviewers had rated it high. And because of The high standards in Tokyo.
First of all the staff was excellent!!! Very friendly, helped us with carrying a baby stroller etc. He was friendly, interested and knew when to interact etc. professional but laid back.
We ordered set menu with tempeh and tofu steaks.
The "7 vegetables salad" was ok but it felt like something from a budget European restaurant. It did not taste that much and served with a simple vinegar dressing.
The miso soup was served in a plastic bowl like on a cheap sushi place.
The tempeh steak was super dry and fell apart when eating it. The tofu was more or less plain firm tofu.
For dessert we had coconut ice cream. It was just ice, not creamy at all...
This was the far most expensive meal we had in Tokyo so far. And I am sad to say it was in the bottom rate. It was 100$ for the booth of us so not super expensive but compared to the fantastic 12$ meal we had at another restaurant earlier it was a great disappointment.
But the biggest disappointment is that the food wasn't great.
Really would have to write a great review of great food since vegan initiative is really the greatest one can do but I really don't want others to experience my disappointment.
The reason the second star is there is for...
Read moreRestaurant which specialises in healthy and organic food, and whilst not being specifically vegetarian, they do seem to understand the concept, and have a number of overtly vegetarian items on the menu. Apparently has been frequented by famous vegetarians like Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, and Janet Jackson. I particularly liked the decor. Lots of wood, and a quite relaxed and cozy atmosphere. A couple of the tables were up on balconies too, which was a nice touch. The food was good too - I think we started with a hot carrot salad, followed some vegetable filled gyoza, then a tempeh steak, a seasonal vegetable gratin and finally a sort of vegetable steak. The gyoza and the gratin were particular highlights - the gratin was amazingly creamy considering there wasn't actually any cheese in it - I think it would have been suitable for vegans actually. Apparently the sauce was made from a kind of bean, slightly reminiscent of the refried beans you get with Mexican food. Even the tempeh was good - it's something I've only had once or twice before, and I have to admit to not having been that impressed previously, but this one had a really good flavour and a very interesting...
Read moreIt’s a relief to be able to order anything off the menu. Everything vegan or vegetarian. Mominoki House prides itself on quality ingredients, grown by trusted producers. The food is carefully prepared and the atmosphere is calm and a refreshing respite from the bustle a few meters away. We ordered the course as well as a few of the extras on the menu, the spring rolls and vegetable tempura ro be precise. The 3 courses offered have a selection of appetisers and a main dish, tofu, tempe, or a chickpea patty. We were very full, especially after I had the blueberry cake, desert is included in the course menu. There is also vegan ice cream! So it’s not cheap but not unreasonable. For two big eaters we paid 14,000 yen which included the course menu, spring rolls, tempura, and wine. Great service just...
