I was looking for another restaurant after I had finished a visit at a pop-up shop at the nearby OIOI. It had caught my eye but I didn’t pay too much attention thinking it was one in a dozen steak/hamburg places. I met up with a friend who wanted to grab something to eat and ultimately ended up deciding on this place after I gave him some options.
As a plus, the menu was available completely in English and if I recall correctly, the display menu outside also had it as well – they know their customer base! You walk in, select and pay for your meal, and have a seat. I’d say the place itself can seat around 30 or less people so I wouldn’t bring more than 2 or 3 friends here.
I ordered a set that came with a hamburg steak and a steak and I elected for a side of fried chicken. Something something CALORIES, blah, blah, blah. Look, girl, you weren’t coming to STEAK MAX on a diet, let’s be real. I got a side of a small rice (#lowcarbqueen) and a dipping sauce of creamy garlic. The sauce was fine but my buddy ended up getting another sauce (yakiniku?? maybe)) that was more sweet-savory that I should’ve gotten.
My best decision was getting the “Hawaiian cheese” side which was cheese with a chili-ish demi glacé sauce underneath. I asked why it was “Hawaiian” and was informed that Steak Max’s former theme/branding was “Hawaiian” so that artifact, by popular demand, remained on the menu. Good thing it did because it was good!
The whole thing arrived on a sizzling hot iron plate with a flame beneath it along with an apron to avoid oil splashing, and a small, gold-colored thing used to extinguish the flame once your food reached a desired internal temperature. I like my stuff a big on the rarer side so I let it going long enough for my tastes.
I left feeling full for about 84 years and would definitely recommend it to others to feel similarly. Fine price, great portions, and very...
Read moreWe happened to be walking around looking for safe place to eat with multiple food allergies. This place is not "known" as food allergy safe restaurants but we went in anyways. They were busy with other customers but the server and even the cook took their time answering all the questions I had and consulted with me on what would be safe to eat. The cook was even cooking while talking to me and not once he gave me any indications that he was annoyed that I was asking so many questions. I could tell, he was trying to come up with alternatives on what would be safe for us to eat there and we were able to come up with menu that is safe.
The food was really good and we were able to enjoy the food and safely. Allergens we had to avoid were wheat, eggs, soy, buckwheat, shellfish, nuts. I am so thankful for their immaculate hospitality.
FYI...It is easy to miss this restaurant as it is in...
Read moreThis trendy dining experience in Shinjuku truly lives up to the hype. The restaurant, though not large, offers a welcoming atmosphere with close seating. Ordering is done before entering, which adds to the efficient service. We chose the Kobe beef steaks, which were accompanied by perfectly cooked fried chicken. The beef curry was also absolutely delicious. The staff is efficient, friendly, and patient, especially with foreign visitors unfamiliar with the protocol. The steaks are served on an iron skillet heated by coals, allowing you to cook them to your liking and use a metal snuffer to extinguish the flame once done. The food is amazing, making it a must-try if you’re in Shinjuku. However, I recommend arriving early as the line forms quickly, and waits...
