First time we had Tâs ramen was on a flight to Tokyo. Zipair sells Tâs Vegan Raman (instant) on the plane and we thought it was delicious. So delicious, in fact, that we sought out Tâs Tantan when we were in town. This location is convenient if you go to the art museums, you enter the station at the entrance near the art museum and the shop is close to that entrance.
Weâve tried the Black Sesame and the traditional Golden Sesame ramen. Both were good, I think the Black Sesame may be a bit richer in flavor. I read some reviews saying the White Sesame could be hot (spicy), but I didnât see that option on the menu. In fact, none of the ramen that we saw on the menu were spicy, which is surprising given the fact that the instant ramen we initially had on the plane does in fact have a nice spice kick. You can request red chili oil on the side, but even that is moderately spiced. We also tried the vegetable gyoza and these were tasty, but the skin (wrapper) is a bit tough. The food is on the pricey side, but you can tell they use quality ingredients, and of course itâs unique for the fact they serve vegan food in Japan, so the extra cost is justified in my opinion.
They also sell Heartland Beer brewed by Kirin, which has a nice flavor. I havenât seen it around too much in Japan, and it pairs nicely with the ramen, so if you like beer give it a try.
Service both times we went has been friendly and they speak...
Read moreEdit: raising stars cos the new limited lemon ramen is DELICIOUS and has calories clearly displayed. Also this is to the foreign tourists coming here: it's small, stop being so obnoxiously loud and bad mannered. / Went a second time, terrible service. Was in line outside and was told (with another person) that I'd be seated soon, but they only seated person 1 and not me. I had to wait more and was only seated cos more people left, and after bigger groups in line. The staff didn't even remember how many people I was with and asked me again. Why say anything then? I could have gone home or done take out with the time I waited. Then when seated, my neighbor who entered after me was asked (unprompted) about their order before me. Plus, limited menu item has no calories displayed, so if you're on a diet you just have to guess? / Casually found it inside Ueno Station and tried, had the Yuzu ramen. I love yuzu-flavored anything so I found it delicious and super filling. Too bad this chain is only inside stations because I'd...
Read moreI was about to go to another ramen place and was recommended by a local friend as this restaurant had vegan food! After getting lost a bit, it was worth the wait.
The service was friendly. The menu has English and full disclosure of allergens.
I had the vegan tonkatsu ramen, plus vegetable gyoza and the rice with soy milk yoghurt.
The tonkatsu ramen with vegan char siu was good with rocket, radish, baby corn and saltwort topping. It may not be comparable yet to the traditional tonkatsu ramen but good for a vegan option. Perhaps some depth umami flavour from kelp can help.
The pickled mustard is yummy with a tinge of spiciness. The highlight was the vegetable gyoza. I only called three and could squeeze in extra because it was oishi!
The soy yoghurt with caramel topping was okay but not my favourite. It was a bit too sweet whereas I was looking for a hint of natural fermented sour taste.
Overall, a very pleasant experience. I will come back to try the black...
