Booked through pocket concierge for a lunch course at the counter, when we arrived there was no one at the front and we waited around for a bit before we walked in and then got greeted by someone.
The food was average, I wasn’t blown away by it but also I could justify the price of the lunch meal.
However, the biggest let down was the service. We were the only foreigners in the shop and we were constantly served smaller pieces than the local Japanese that sat next to us. The service was lacking because the tempura chef would sometimes bring it over and not even bother to tell us what the piece was or the recommended way of eating it. I understand if he didn’t know the English names for it, but he didn’t even introduce them in Japanese even though we were speaking Japanese with the staff since we walked in. There were also courses that he served us two items at a time instead of one by one which I didn’t like.
We were also skipped a course of salad which I saw the others around us get but we didn’t - this didn’t bother me too much because I’m not the biggest fan of Japanese salad anyways.
Overall, the service from the other staff members were fine, the other males working behind the counter would always try their best to inform us of the items whether in English or in Japanese and the hostess...
Read moreThey have various outlets, but the ambience at the Takashimaya outlet is great with seats well spread out. Some seats have wooden partitions for more privacy. Tsunahachi serves excellent tempura. Their tempura batter is light and not oily. We had the Sazanami set, and it was excellent value for money. Sekiguchi-san was very helpful in explaining how we should go about eating the tempura. She introduced us to Mozuku, a vinegar seaweed like drink from Okinawa. Mozuku is an acquired taste. We had the Yebisu beer, which we prefer to Asahi and Kirin. It has a slight bitter...
Read moreNice tempura house. Had a set menu for 2 in the high 4000 yen. With Shrimp, 3 seafoods, 3 vegetable, other fried foods, and a choice of tendon. Tasty and pricey as it usually is at a tempura specialty house, Amazing was the 4 different salts they offer to be used at different fries. Service was attentive, however it is customary they shall explain the different fries as they are served at table or counter, and also suggest the type of seasoning to be used. We had no explanation at all, which makes the satisfaction level of the...
