The good: very good beer, nice decor, smiling staff.
The bad: overpriced. You will pay 1000 for 8ounces (half pint) of craft beer.
You will pay 1800 for a pint.
They also will “give” you items you did not order and charge you - a bit of “Japanese culture” explained to me by my date who I’d just met, so I let it go.
We ordered four half-pints at 1,000 each, and 2x1000 yen food options, which with rounding up should have come to just under 6,000 yen, so even after the unsolicited kabocha salad…how the bill came to be 11,800 in total I do not know. The end price was almost double. Two half pints is not enough to get so drunk that I wouldn’t notice this discrepancy …but I was on a date and didn’t feel like arguing about it then. Maybe that’s my fault, but also this was a rather egregious miscalculation on part of the restaurant. I want to feel confident that I don’t have to deal with a restaurant asking for far too much money.
Business was slow that night and they were insisting on extra items we had to decline. By the end of the night the smiling staff appeared more deceitful than kind. She handed me the bill and I was like wow, but I was on a date and didn’t want to talk about it in front of her. I hate stores that can’t keep track of things like this.
The food was okay. “Eggplant carpaccio” (what’s next, tomato mignon? Lol) but compared to the beer itself was (supposed to be) reasonably priced albeit very small portions.
Unless you can pay to keep the staff and yourself smiling then I recommend enjoying craft...
Read moreStumbled across this great find walking back from the tourist filled streets surrounding Senso-ji to my hotel. Hidden in a small side street, The Day has the feel of a Western-style brew pub, but with a definite local twist: Their menu features a selection of Japanese craft beers (in addition to a couple from the States) and they make their own sausages in house (I watched someone behind the counter making them on my first visit). I had both the Chinese 5-Spice sausage and the spicy kimchi one... both were excellent! And, the evening I ate there, you could tell most of the clientele were locals and regulars by way everyone joked and talked, which made a nice change from the queues of anonymous tourists at other nearby restaurants....
Read moreWe visited in June and the staff are so friendly!! We stood outside looking at the options and they were quick to come out and welcome us in. The beers were great, especially on such a hot day and they took the time to show us which beers were local and which ones were not.
We didn’t order any food but they had a special burger menu at the time that looked amazing.
When we left we forgot our umbrella and someone kindly ran after us to return it. Overall it was a very positive experience and we would recommend THE DAY to any craft...
