Visiting Miu Kimono was my favorite experience of my entire trip! When I arrived the studio was very clean and professional. Miss Miu and her assistant were very flexible and understanding even when there was a little miscommunication on the appointment time. The makeup was done first and done very well. As we were putting on the furisode, they would ask if I felt comfortable and if anything felt too tight. It wasn’t :) And even though I was a little worried about the hair because I didn’t have much, she did a wonderful job on it. We talked for a bit and I learned about the different meanings behind wearing the different types of dresses they offered. I also learned how much work is put into how the dress I chose is traditionally worn, and the criteria for which many professionals would look for in a good fit. I found Miu and her assistant to be very well practiced in kimono dressing as a profession. They put a lot of care into their client’s wellbeing. And above all, I could tell they valued the work they put into dressing their clients properly. I felt so beautiful in my dress.
Overall, if you are looking for an experience that respects tradition, a clean setting, professionalism, quality in dressing and photography, and very kind people then I would highly recommend MIU Kimono.
I went for pretty much the full package: dress, hair, make up, and photography. All the work done is high quality, but not ridiculously priced. And I found the price to be quite reasonable, especially with the quality of work. The photos are so lovely, Miu is the one who takes them. She did a spin around Senso-ji with me and looked for spots that go well with the lighting of that time of the day. She even helped direct me on some poses to do. Overall a super fun and relaxing experience.
The studio is a little tough to find because Google Maps doesn’t point to the right place. Look up for a sign on a building for all the shops in it. MIU should be on the very top one in all pink. Also theres a sign placed just outside the door next to a blue vending machine outside the complex. When inside, take the elevator to the fourth floor and you’ll be right at their doorstep. There weren’t many other clients going in and out, so I had a peaceful appointment. The studio is spacious and relatively private.
I also recommend scheduling appointments well in advance. It’s not impossible to get an appointment close to the time you send a request, but I still wouldn’t recommend it. Especially in cherry blossom season.
I will definitely return, even if it’s to just say hi. I am lucky and grateful to get to know Miu and Kaori as friends in such a short time. They were so kind to me and easy to communicate with. I had an amazing and fun time learning and just chatting. It was like having friends over on vacation! I am glad I spent my last day in Japan with them and exploring the places around Asakusa. And the pictures we took are like my new favorites haha. I hope they do well! And I hope that everyone who is interested in kimonos will get to experience the wonderful services and kindness MIU Kimono...
Read moreWe recently booked the full services with Miu Kimono for the Kimono rental, hair set, makeup, and photography services.
Location - It is pretty close to the Asakusa station. Please look out for the Mui signage. Otherwise, you can miss it easily.
Services - Miu & her team were there early at their shop, waiting for customers to arrive. We were greeted when we arrived. We were guided on the process of choosing our kimono, they gave us their professional opinion on the choices, etc. They also asked our preference, like how the makeup we want to be done, how we want to take our photos, eg, all individual person photos, or mixed, etc. We can also choose to leave everything in their with no worries (we basically did that - haha). The photographer is Mui's hubby. He is very professional, he taught us how to pose etc. They will send us a link via email within 3 days for us to see the photos taken and the process of choosing our photos is very easy. Also, the kimono are of good qualities and comfortable. And I really love their assessories like the hair clips, obits etc. It was all handmade. It doesn't lose the traditional feel, and yet it is modern.
End Products - We were very satisfied and happy with the end results. The photos taken were beautifully, as it was well handled by Mui & her team throughout the whole process. In the end, we buy all the photos.
PS There were actually a lot people at the Shrine when we were taking the photos. But when you see the photos, it was as if we were the only one there! That's how good &...
Read moreI recently visited Miu Kimono during my trip to Tokyo, and it was hands down the best kimono rental experience I’ve ever had! The owner, Miu, is incredible. Not only does she speak English fluently, but she also goes above and beyond to ensure you have a memorable and informative experience.
From the moment I arrived, Miu made me feel so welcome and comfortable. She helped me choose the perfect kimono, explaining the meaning behind each design and color. During the dressing process, she took the time to walk me through each step, explaining why things are done a certain way in traditional kimono dressing, making it both fun and educational.
What truly sets Miu Kimono apart from other rental services is how personal and intimate the whole experience feels. Unlike other places that often feel rushed or impersonal, Miu's service is thoughtful and engaging. She genuinely cares about making sure you look and feel your best. The level of detail and attention she gives is rare and refreshing.
One of the highlights was how Miu styled my hair – it was absolutely stunning! Her expertise in creating traditional yet modern looks was impressive. I left feeling both beautiful and confident, and I can’t recommend Miu Kimono enough to anyone visiting Tokyo.
If you're looking for a personalized, high-quality kimono rental experience, Miu Kimono is the place to go. I will definitely be returning next time...
