Amazing sushi. Just go for the 3500 Yen (32 USD) set. Or if you're not hungry, take then 2000 Yen (19 USD) set. But I suggest you arrive here hungry.
⏱There was a 45-minute wait, mostly Japanese people.
🐙I'm usually not a fan of ika nigiri (raw squid nigiri), but here it was delightful af. Zero chewiness, and instead very tender and subtle in taste and texture. I loved it.
🍣It goes without saying that all the fish sushi, nigiri & maki were amazing and exceeded expectations.
⚠️I got to say though that while the entire experience was amazing, the final piece of sushi was... very, very weird. None of us liked it, and to be honest, if this wasn't a Japanese restaurant where the chef is standing right in front of you, I would have spit out that final piece into a tissue. Instead, I braved my way through chumping it down as quickly as I could and washing it down with with plenty of green tea. I can't quiet describe it—it tasted the way cat food smells, just more unpleasant. I guess it's an acquired taste that real sushi aficionados appreciate, and probably rare (I've eaten sushi hundreds of times in my life, and never tasted anything like it), but I'd caution you to be careful with that last bite if that's what they always serve. No one in our group liked this last piece, and we were all baffled by the chefs choice to end the meal with that piece. But other than that, everything was great.
🙂Some people commented on their negative experience with the service, mentioning that they were under the impression that tourists are being seated upstairs in the cheap seats while Japanese people are being seated downstairs and get a better treatment. This was NOT our experience at all. As a group of foreigners, we were led downstairs and received great service—our sushi chef didn't speak English, so obviously there was not much conversation, but he was still very attentive.
📷There's a "no camera" policy inside the restaurant, so if you want to share your experience on insta, this is not the place for you.
🤔I've read from others in the reviews that this place is not special, and sushi of equal or even better quality can be found for the same price in many places in Tokyo—I'd challenge that. I'm sure these places exist, but having eaten in about 20+ different sushi places in Tokyo, some of them much higher-priced than this Sushidai, I have to say our experience here was exceptional and I will for sure return here every time I visit Tokyo. Highly, highly...
Read moreReview of Sushi Dai - Tsukiji Market
I recently had the opportunity to visit Sushi Dai in Tsukiji Market, and I must say, my experience left me feeling a bit underwhelmed, especially considering the hype surrounding this establishment.
First, let’s talk about the food. While Sushi Dai is often touted as a must-visit for sushi lovers, I found the quality to be overrated for the price. The portions of fish were surprisingly small, which was a letdown given the premium prices. When you're paying top dollar for sushi, you expect a generous serving, but that was not the case here.
Furthermore, the rice which is the key to all good sushi was disappointingly cold. Sushi rice should be served at the perfect temperature to enhance the overall experience, but the cold rice at Sushi Dai detracted significantly from the flavors and textures of the fish. For a comparison, I visited Toyosu Market the day before, and the sushi there was not only fresher but also served at the ideal temperature, making it a far superior experience.
The atmosphere at Sushi Dai (Tsukiji Market) was bustling, which is to be expected in a popular market, but the long wait times didn’t seem justified given the quality of the sushi. Overall, I felt that Sushi Dai did not live up to its reputation, and I would recommend exploring other options in the area, especially if you're looking for a more satisfying sushi experience.
In conclusion, while Sushi Dai may have its fans, I believe that there are better sushi spots out there that offer more generous portions, fresher fish, and a better overall experience. Save your yen and head to Toyosu...
Read moreI came here for lunch on Saturday and waited 60 min in line to enter. Sushi Dai was recommended to me by several people that have eaten here over the years and all of them were enthusiastic about it.
I ordered the most luxurious set (most expensive), with a hot sake and per my choice the sea urchin sushi (uni). This set came with various set pieces of sushi and at the end you can pick two pieces of a list to your liking. The sea urchin is an additional 500yen, but definitely worth the try!
The sushi itself is prepared right in front of you and placed in front of you one by one. You can see the chefs interacting with each other, with the customers and with the other staff. Everything is run extremely smoothly and they keep service and quality in high regards.
In terms of flavour this is the best sushi I have ever had! Every bite melts on your tongue; Flavours were incredible; The fish was incredibly fresh and beautifully on display; The miso soup was by far the most flavourful one I have ever had and came with a shrimp head per bowl;
I did however have one tiny fish-bone in one of my sushi pieces. Yet for the experience, flavour, quality and quantity you're getting this was by far the best sushi experience I have ever had. To second that, the menu that is listed here online is not accurate to the current one in terms of price.
I definitely recommend everyone visiting here if you fancy original, freshly made Japanese sushi!
For all this I paid just...
