We had dinner at this restaurant and were really impressed by the quality of the food – everything was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was lovely too, with a relaxed vibe, and it was especially enjoyable to sit at the counter and watch the chefs prepare the sushi right in front of us.
However, the experience took a turn at the end. When it came time to pay. The waitress brought a slip of paper with the price in handwriting (not a proper bill). After paying we had to actively ask for the receipt, which was a bit awkward. We noticed that some things seemed off, but the staff were already cleaning up and we were politely rushed out since the restaurant was closing soon – which we knew about and were okay with.
Unfortunately, once we got back and translated the bill via app, we realized we had been charged for an appetizer we never ordered, and a couple of extras were billed at higher prices than what we had actually received. These things can happen, and we understand mistakes occur, but as tourists, we left feeling a bit taken advantage of, which put a damper on an otherwise great meal.
In conclusion: great food but it’s worth taking a closer look at the bill before paying.
Addition after the Restaurants reply:
The restaurants explanation raises doubts about its honesty. Charging guests extra just because they order alcohol makes little sense – why not simply adjust drink prices instead of hiding fees behind a forced appetizer?
Also, this policy wasn’t applied consistently – others who were drinking alcohol didn’t get an appetiser, and the sister restaurant we went to multiple times never did this. It still doesn’t explain why our sushi was priced differently than on the menu or why the server hesitated to give us the bill.
We initially assumed it was a simple mistake, but after receiving such a vague and inconsistent response, it now feels more like intentional misdirection than a misunderstanding. A disappointing experience, especially considering the food itself...
Read moreWhat a fantastic experience! A colleague of mine, local to Tokyo, recommended this restaurant. When we walked in, we knew we were somewhere special. Small. Simple. NOT geared toward tourists. We were the only English-speaking couple in the restaurant, but the entire staff treated us with kindness (and were very patient as we stumbled through the menu). We appreciate good Japanese food and are accustomed to paying large sums of money for good sushi back home. Well, large sums of money aren’t required here. We ate some of the best sushi and sashimi we’ve had in recent memory for less than half what we would have paid back home. We will...
Read moreBest sushi I've ever had. The staff were clearly very experienced and made sure we had a great time, and the atmosphere in the restaurant was super! I had one of the courses, the sushi was fresh and it was a great experience to see it being made in front of you. The other customers also seemed to have a great time, and I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting the Ginza area. Thank you...
