I recently visited Tsukiji Yaki Uo Ishikawa again, a restaurant I previously enjoyed despite the one-hour queue, which is quite typical for popular spots in Tokyo. This time, I brought my family member along for lunch, eager to share the delightful experience. However, the wait was even longer—1 hour and 45 minutes—but we didn't mind as we were excited for the meal.
Unfortunately, this visit turned out to be quite disappointing. From the moment we were seated, it felt different. As an Asian tourist, I had a sense of not being particularly welcomed, but I brushed it off, focusing on the food.
We ordered a set of 7 pieces of Otoro and 2 rice bowls. The waitress, who grilled our fish, accidentally dropped the fish on the table and then put it back on the dish, mixing it with the sauce and other pieces. This was quite concerning given the high standards one would expect for the price.
The fish was barely cooked and quite raw, which is how it’s supposed to be, but it had been contaminated by whatever was on the table. To make matters worse, she grilled all 7 pieces together, and by the time we reached the third piece, the rest were cold. This suggested a rush to get us to finish quickly.
Despite the high price, the lack of proper cooking and hygiene standards was unacceptable. Sadly, we ended up with food poisoning and experienced diarrhea for several days. This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve had in Tokyo, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. We won't...
Read moreProbably one of the best sushi experiences I've ever had, and that's saying something given that I have am from city where fresh fish is the norm. Here you can enjoy sushi in a "yakiniku" style where the chef will personally help you gently grill each type of fish on the grill in front of you. Every type of fish is exquisite and the quality absolutely amazing. The fatty toro is just like a piece of A5 wagyu steak - absolutely melts in your mouth. In fact, I think this is probably better than any beef steak you'll ever have. I was pleasantly surprised with the tuna tendon -- a slightly chewy, yet pleasant, texture that just melts in your mouth. All of the fish are grilled in front of you and are placed on top of the flavored rice. Their sake selection is also great. I enjoyed the Laifuku from Ibaraki prefecture, which had flowery tones that accompanied the fish perfectly. If I have guests from out of town or from abroad, I will be sure to bring them here. An absolute gem in a city where many sushi restaurants...
Read moreFor me, it’s too expensive both in quantity and quality. I’ve spent total of 30,000+ yen for 2 people ordering the course including Super thick seared fatty tuna, sea urchin and salmon roe rice bowl Superb grilled fish including the best kalbi Superb sashimi
For quantity, you can look what I got in the picture (The course included Somenx2 and Dessertx2). Those are already for 2 people. It’s too small for this price. Also, they served me 3 thin pieces of sashimi. I thought it’s the appetizer so I didn’t take a picture. I was so surprised that they include it in the menu but it actually a dish (underline — thin pieces)
For quality, I can say that the Tuna is the best. I like it so much. I can say that it’s the best that I’ve ever eaten. But the tuna were serves only 3 pieces. The others are all so so for me. Some kind of fish is a bit fishy as well. So it’s not acceptable for me. The price should be better both in quality...
