Howdy Grillhouse Kota Kinabalu — Restaurant in Borneo

Honest review from me. I think there are too many appraisal to make the food and the restaurant looks good. I was affected by reviews posted before I decided to go for a trial with my guest from overseas. First reaction atmosphere is so so. Cheqp budget steak house.

We ordered mushroom pork chop, medium rare sirloin steak, and bake mussel. Bake mussel was served first. 1st looks of the mussel already gave a very doubtful taste . Imagine if something was baked, we can see the food was soaked with water. Asked the captain, he explained to me, that I have ordered bake mussel. So I asked him, baked food came with soaking water, then he told me he will inform and ask the cook. Then this topic was history.

Then sirloin steak was served to my guest, And the pork was not ready to serve yet. Politely, my guest sat and said will wait for my pork to be served, then we eat together . After 15minutes, I told my guest to go ahead to eat first as his steak was getting cold. When I asked the staff. They only said still cooking and will come out soon. According to my guest, The medium rare sirloin was too hard, and the quality was not up those appraisal posted. And it did not worth to pay the price.

After one hour and 5 minutes, my guest has eaten his steak and my pork was no way to see. And I asked for the bill, paid and left the restaurant, all the whole, The captain was avoiding my table and the waitress who collected the money don’t even bother to apologize nor ask why happened.

Celebrated my birthday here with my family. The whole experience was really enjoyable. Presentation of meals were splendid. My mom enjoyed the pork ribs the most. Flavourful, easy to pull meats off the bones, tender. 👍👍👍👍

Pork belly slices was tough and not so chewable... Had to spit them out after chewing for quite some time. 🤭

Lamb was good for me, i like the tenderness and i like to chew, but some of my family members didnt like it, not tender enough... Depends on preferences.

I love the fact that they used real onion slices as rings (not frozen) with their batter.👍

🤔🤔🤔🤔Something is not right with the batter because it was very hard to crunch, cuts thru our gum while crunching... they used the same batter on onion rings and prawns. Pretty tough. (Keras betul, gigi pun sakit.) 😮😮😮 I mentioned to them and they kindly cooked us a new batch of onion rings. Thank you. 👍👍👍

Calamari crunch was fine for us. That was good. Garden salad was okay, maybe can add a few more leaves of lettuce. Coleslaw was good, too. 👍

Wine selections are tempting, the menu gives a good "sommelier" review. A waiter also knew which wine to match which dish. We chose Bliss. Fantastic.👍👍👍

I did teach one of the waitresses how to pour wine because the wrong way will cause the wine to drip out of glass.

Comfortable seats. Classy atmosphere. Customer service was good. Waiters and waitresses all good mannered with smiles. 👍👍👍

*Toilet problem, i do not know what but can't use. Must walk out to the public toilet outside...

My wife, two daughters, and I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch at Howdy Grillhouse KK, and it turned out to be a truly delightful experience for the whole family.

The food was absolutely delicious, and the highlight for my daughters was definitely the French fries - crispy, well-seasoned, and served hot. It's not often you come across fries that are this memorable! Every dish we ordered was well-prepared, flavourful, and very reasonably priced. The Taliwang Racks is definitely recommended, a memorable dish that my daughters and wife thoroughly enjoyed.

The staff were friendly, courteous, and attentive, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Service was smooth and efficient, even during lunch hour.

We also appreciated the warm and cozy ambience. The restaurant was clean and thoughtfully decorated, with harmonious lighting and excellent background music that added to the relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere - perfect for family dining.

The location is easy to find, and parking was convenient. The menu offers a wide and satisfying selection, catering to different preferences, whether you're dining as a couple or with children.
