Atmosphere is classic Penang-style, seating space is a bit tight compared to a regular restaurant, but it’s not a big issue. It’s pretty standard for local spots. You’ll hear the Chinese boss shouting to his staff from time to time, which honestly just adds to the whole vibe. It feels authentic, like a proper local food spot should.
Service is great. You scan a QR code on the table to browse the menu and place your order directly from your phone. Super convenient. Every item has a picture and a short description, which really helps. What impressed me the most was how insanely customizable the menu is. You can tweak your dish however you like — no egg, no taoge, vegan options, allergy-safe options… it’s wild. I wish I had screenshotted the menu, there were so many ways to adjust your order.
Only downside is if you come during peak hours, the wait can be long. I waited about 30 minutes for my food. But it was totally worth it. The boss comes around every 10 minutes to check in and reassure you that your order’s not forgotten. Drinks arrive fast though, so you’re not just sitting there empty-handed.
Now the food, this is where Bee Hwa shines. Best meal I had in Penang, hands down. I had the char kway teow, small size, no taoge — and it was already super filling. No gimmicks, just solid, classic flavor. A great char kway teow is all about that smoky wok hei, balanced seasoning, and the right texture. This one nailed it. Simple, bold, and satisfying.
I think it's Halal? They didn't serve pork that's for sure. Also had no picture because i immediately devoured the delicious looking...
Read moreIf you're looking for an authentic Penang breakfast that's also Halal (Pork and lard free) this is a must visit place in Georgetown. The interior is super homely, you'll feel like you're in their house (I think people live upstairs) but I live and die for places like this. If you're looking for a more generic-gentrified modern place to visit/eat at, this isn't it. We got the roti bakar with butter and kaya (essentially just toasted bread with butter and a common jam-like local spread made from pandan leaf extract) and it came with half boiled eggs that went amazingly together, add a dash of their sour soy sauce if you feel like you'd like something salty on it. We also got the prawn hokkien mee which came with prawns, fishballs, half an egg, crab sticks and pieces of chicken meat. The broth itself was flavorful and balanced, when you add the prawn paste to it, it takes on a whole new taste. Would definitely recommend if you've always wanted to try a good hokkien mee but all the halal ones taste terrible to you (because honestly, most do 😭) we also got the iced coffee which came with cute little hearts on it. A very full bodied coffee that was as sweet as it was bitter, making it a perfect start to the day. The entire meal was RM16 for two people which is an absolute steal. P.s. there's these huge lines during breakfast so if you want to skip that, just go around 11am when most of the local people have eaten and left already. If you can't find it, it's located directly opposite to this huge police station you...
Read moreWas brought here by friend who claimed to be sooooo good ckt! The minute I realized it was a halal place I had my reservations. ckt w/o pork lard is no ckt to me, especially in Penang! No way! Since my friend was so adamant in promoting the ckt, I relented and just grab a table and placed our order. The order taker, a young chap wasn't too friendly, aggressive in short. maybe it's his tone of voice. well.... While waiting we ordered asam boi lime juice since they don't have umbra juice. the waiting starts...... 20mins passed, 40 mins passed and 1hour passed. really? Our order finally arrived, after 1hour and 5 mins wait! This is my longest ever wait for a plate of ckt @RM8! Taste? Moist enough and the spiciness just right. when i saw crabstick and fishball in my plate of ckt, i slapped my forehead! For me, surely not worth the wait!! You may find something similar or better anytime, anywhere minus the ridiculous wait! Will I return?? NOPE! Apart from ckt, there is also mee jawa, hokkien mee, asam laksa, nasi goreng, mee goreng, mihun goreng, curry mee, hokkien char and sang mee to choose from. Guess anything not goreng will take a lesser wait. Parking is a nightmare to this place. We parked at the multi story prkg at the back of Bee Hwa across the road for RM2 and don't even think of double parking as the police station is right in front of...
