Only halves served! and sadly, Had to interject on the Guiness pooring, the Barman was not letting the Surge settle. 🙄
Heres some helpfu and friendly l notes for staff as training: Guinness is poured in two parts to achieve its iconic creamy head and allow the stout to settle properly, ensuring a smooth texture and a perfect pint.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
The History:
Originally, Guinness was stored in two separate wooden casks, one under high pressure and the other under low, requiring a careful two-part pour to yield the picture-perfect pint with its dense, creamy head.
Modern Technique:
Even with modern nitrogenated Guinness, the two-part pour is retained to create the distinctive creamy head and allow the beer to settle, resulting in a clearer division between the dark liquid and the head.
The Process:
Pour the Guinness into a glass tilted at a 45-degree angle until it's about three-quarters full.
*Allow the surge to settle for a minute *
Then, fill the glass to the top to achieve the perfect pint with a creamy white head.
The "Perfect Pint":
The two-part pour is a tradition that ensures a smooth, creamy texture and a distinct visual presentation, with the head hovering just above the rim in a...
Read moreI went into this bar on my way back to the hostel, ordered a daiquiri which tasted and smelt like petrol or paint stripper. I stupidly drank it just thinking it was a cheap alcohol used but regretted it! I had the worst night and felt so sick with intense fever and body aches, my immune system was ruined and I’ve been run down ever since. I felt horrendous and really ill. The next day I went to a pharmacy and explained my symptoms and talked him through what I had done, when I mentioned the taste of the drink he told me I was lucky as this is methanol/ethanol poisoning!!! The staff were a bit sleazy in there and got offended when I left asking where I was going and what am I doing now. I just felt as a solo female traveller that I was being targeted however met a group on nye who had a similar experience. Just avoid this place to be safe or if you insist on going in drink a bottled beer! I won’t be going back and think people should be aware how dangerous...
Read moreWe got here quite late and only ran in because it was storming outside, however it was nice bar, staff seemed friendly and they had a live act on. The band were quite good (though it was a bit too loud that while playing you couldn’t hold much conversation). The staff provided us menus for food even though it was so late as we hadn’t managed to eat yet, and the food was nice enough. There was also an incident involving a customer who seemed to be too drunk. They had fallen down, and were not able to keep themselves safe. Staff helped their friend keep them upright on a seat, provided water and helped them up when they fell until their taxi arrived which was a good duty of care I felt. Only let down really was the volume, and drinks are a little steep but that is the norm in...
