RM79.90,值得每一分钱。

A Nostalgic Pre - Birthday Treat at The Ship (Jalan Sri Bahari)

Strolling into The SHIP Restaurant at Jalan Sri Bahari during my birthday month felt like stepping into a cherished memory—one wrapped in warmth, joy, and a hint of garlic butter in the air.

After wrapping up our weekend dessert deliveries, this little celebratory detour was exactly what our hearts (and tummies) needed.

Believe it or not, my last visit here was SIXTEEN YEARS ago—back in 2009! There’s a saying that goes, “The Ship is old, but it is gold”—and I couldn't agree more.

Growing up in a humble, lower-income household, dining at The Ship back then felt like attending a royal banquet—it was a big deal. To make it even more meaningful, my mom used to run her little hair salon directly across from The Ship some twenty five years ago. So yes, this place holds a bundle of heartfelt memories.

Now, fast forward to today—The Ship is offering a Merdeka Month promotion at both their Georgetown and Batu Feringgi branches, and let me tell you: it's a delicious deal not to be missed.

We indulged in their Roasted Chicken Drumstick set lunch, which came complete with a warm welcome bun, beverage, a rich and creamy sweet corn soup generously topped with REAL CRAB 🦀 MEAT(not the pretend kind), salad, and dessert—all for just RM36.90. I mean, where else can you get that kind of feast these days without breaking the bank?

As if that wasn't enough, we also ordered the à la carte Fillet Steak Flambé Brandy—medium rare, of course. It came beautifully served with a side of salad and chunky chips, all for only RM79.90. Now that’s what I call flambé without the flamboyance (on your bill).

The steak? Tender, juicy, and perfectly seared. That warm, steamy mushroom brandy sauce hugged every bite with just the right sweetness and seasoning—a delightful dance of flavors on the plate. Salt and pepper? On point. Portions? Generous. Satisfaction level? Let’s just say we needed a moment of silence.

A special mention to the delightful surprise—the Ship has expanded their menu to include Chinese cuisine, perfect for those who enjoy an Asian twist to their Western favorites. Fusion foodies, rejoice!

To top off the experience, we had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Gary Gopal, the manager, who warmly listened to our little walk down memory lane. His genuine hospitality made our visit even more special.

All in all, we left with full bellies and fuller hearts. The Ship continues to sail strong—and we can’t wait to return for dinner on our next visit.

So if you’re in the mood for a nostalgic treat wrapped in deliciousness and value, don’t miss out on The Ship’s Merdeka promotions. Anchors aweigh, fellow foodies!

The last time I came here was when I was in primary and secondary school time. Subsequently I stopped coming here for a while when I just started working, because I couldn't afford it.

Several years later, I am back at The Ship. The restaurant has aged well, but there wasn't any major upgrade to it.

I ordered a medium rare fillet mignon. First of all, kudos to the chef who made this. It was perfect. The steak was great, but somehow I didn't enjoy the boiled vegetables at the side. Don't get me wrong, the boiled vegetables were fine, but it just did not look nice next to a perfectly done steak. Maybe some roasted potatoes or asparagus would be nicer. Personally I also didn't like corn, but that's just me. I would love it if we were given several options for sides.

The seafood soup uses dory fish fillet, which has an unpleasant smell to it. Some of ingredients might be of frozen ones too, can smell the odor of some ingredients.

Another thing that I didn't really enjoy was the ambience. It was dark inside, and the tables were very close to each other. The interior deco is also very messy.

Overall, the food is good, and the ambiance is a little off. Parking is limited. Some overdue revamp is needed to stay...

"The best steak in town" is not qualify at your sign

The restaurant is perfectly environment, yellow dimmer light, tidy, high cleanliness, but service come to you is foreigner, it's not big issues, acceptable for foreigner, but I paid 10% service charge on bill and get annoying by your staff at hall to video call during working and loud of their language...

2nd, the place is tip top maybe 10 year 20 years ago, now totally lost the feel because we no see any professional chef or service crew captain there anymore

I go there by before 9:30 because see at Google details close on 11pm... But the staff never give a space to see the menu once they pass to me, they want me order immediately... I go by 2 pax and just give a menu, what wrong? I'm wrong because I am late???? Ask the staff nicely and we tell them sorry because google wrote in 11pm, they feed back me "google is nothing deal with them" come on la.... The ship....

Anyway... May this is last time visited... Because there have nothing valued to go anymore

Last, steak is many option but sauce is instant demi glace...because of this, totally out from the best...

I had dinner at The Ship and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. The atmosphere is unique — the interior really gives you that vintage ship vibe with dim lighting, nautical décor, and a classic steakhouse feel. It’s spacious, with comfortable red seating and neatly set tables, which makes it feel both cozy and a bit nostalgic. I ordered the steak set, which came with broccoli, corn on the cob, and a baked potato. The steak itself was tender, flavorful, and well-cooked, while the sides were fresh and nicely presented. I especially liked the portioning — generous without being overwhelming. Service was attentive and polite, and the staff made sure everything was served promptly. If I had to point out one thing, I’d say the place could feel a little old-fashioned to some, but I personally think that’s part of its charm. Definitely a good spot for a hearty Western-style meal in Penang, especially if you’re craving steak in a unique setting.

Some overdue revamp is needed to stay competitive. 3.5/5.
