I strongly disagree with restaurants that serve shark meat. Marine projects all over the world dedicate their resources and life to preserve the ocean’s ecosystem. Sharks are one of the most important predators in the marine ecosystem next to sea turtles. They keep the symbiotic balance in the waters by eating preys like tunas and other small fishes. When humans hunt sharks for the purpose of making a buck from tuna meat*, it would lead to the extinction of sharks and there would be too much tuna causing an imbalance. Once there is too much tuna (or “middle” fish in the food chain) the overpopulation of them would eat all the smaller fish and these smaller fishes plays a role in maintaining healthy coral reefs. These coral reefs are what protects us from disasters like Tsunami floods.
The consumption of shark fins, other then it causing an imbalance in the ecosystem which eventually will come back to harm our livelihoods, is INHUMANE. To obtain these shark (mostly fins because they have a higher demand), they would slice the fins and tails of sharks and mostly baby sharks or small sharks because they are easier to catch and then they would release them back into the wild leaving them helpless to defend themselves and they would suffer and die at the bottom of the ocean. These creatures are not “cicak” that they can grow back their fins! Imagine someone capturing you, cut your arms and legs, and then they let you go back home. How would you feel. In the Chinese culture, shark fin consumption is seen limited only to the rich and elite. Is it worth it? Google says their meat could be nutritious. Human meat are also high in nutritional value. It’s all about ethicality.
We as humans are forgetting our original place in the food chain. Abusing that power and forgetting history. We must all play our part in sustaining the one planet that we have (until Elon musk figures out a way to make Mars habitable).
Fact: Harming the sea turtle species are also harmful in a way that will affect the livelihood of humans. They eat jellyfishes and often mistake plastics for them. The extinction of this species will cause giant swarms of jelly fish seasons which means no more holidaying in perhentian, langkawi, pulau pangkor, etc. and all over the world as they are creatures that migrate.
P.s. ordered the ghee thosai with egg. It was okay okay. Nothing great nor better than the one at mamak. Just better presentation. Good atmosphere though and the clean bathroom is always a plus for me.
*fishermen understands that where there are sharks, there are tunas. They also tend to kill sharks so tunas can...
Read moreExtremely disappointing first visit. Came with such hopes after reading several glowing reviews. No wines available despite listing on the menu. Appetizers of Point Pedro Vadai and Fish and Chicken Rolls were atrocious! The Vadais were cold, tasted stale, and were hard to bite/chew. The rolls were cold, doughy, and hard to cut through - they were apparently made earlier in the day and an attempt was made to reheat in a microwave prior to serving (manager confessed). Masala Tea was weak. Prawn Curry, Fish Varuval, and Mutton Kothu with Iddiyappam were better but still nowhere near the mark. The Thali for two came with three vegetable curries (including a hard to chew bitter gourd fry curry), a chicken curry, a mutton curry, rice and Iddiyappam…Rasam was offered as an accompanying drink and the meal was rounded off with Sweet Paal Appams. The latter were the best of the lot. The Thali food was nothing to write home about. As the restaurant filled up, service became stretched and we were completely ignored until it was time to pay. The food and drinks set us back RM 235 - reasonable; however the food’s mediocrity was hard to overlook. Not a repeatable visit by any means. There are significantly better Sri Lankan restaurants in town - check out The Lankan KL, Aliyaa, and Ceylon Flavors for much better experiences. Unfortunate - wanted to...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal patron of the restaurant group for over 5 years, frequenting at outlets like Yarl @ Brickfields, Aliya @ Damansara, and Nadodi, all of which set high standards in food and service. My recent experience at the Yarl @ Jalan Doraisamy outlet, however, was shocking and deeply disappointing.
It’s heartbreaking to see such a drop in quality and attentiveness. My order had a drink which was missing, and the mistake even got repeated for an extra item ( Veggie Cutler) which I had added to my food menu.
No explanation or acknowledgment came from the server, who seemed oblivious to the mistake. When I tried to give feedback while settling the bill, it was brushed aside by her as if my concerns were trivial, with the server even walking away mid-conversation. The only person who showed any empathy was the cashier, but no other responsible staff was available to address the feedback seriously.
This is not the standard this group once upheld, and it’s devastating to witness such poor service. It saddens and angers me to see a place I once trusted fall so low.
Note : If it helps, the server name was Poorni. If I need a receipt of my food bill, I am happy to provide.
Once again, my point of such feedback is not to be critical only, it's just that such experiences clearly put a very bad light on a great...
