I have always wanted to try Dotty's and now I have. I have never had much of a sweet tooth so pastries weren't even on the itinerary when I planned this visit. I had a late lunch with my husband and we sat in the alfresco dining area.
The restaurant: Elegantly decorated. Cozy but not suffocatingly so. Beautiful. No sink though. Not one specific for customers, I mean. Theres a sink behind the pastry counter that the staff will allow you to use. I dont expect to see a lot of people eating with their hands there, but I think you'd still wanna wash your hands before eating. So, perhaps wet towlettes? Nothing can be done about the view from the area outside, though I wish I sat inside. Perhaps I will, next time.
Service: The area I sat at was on the outside and while there are attendants standing on the inside of the door to this dining area, It was a little tough to get their attention. Though as soon as they see you raising your hand, they will quickly attend to you and I'm happy to report that the service is good. They will do all they can to make sure you have a good meal.
Food: I ordered beef nachos, dotty's cheeseburger and grilled lamb.
The beef nachos were good, but the cheese sauce was not nacho cheese. The chili was good. A little more jalapeño would be better, but thats just my preference. Overall, I enjoyed this dish and will be my go to in my next visit.
The cheeseburger was not a win. Didnt understand why so much watery honey mustard was in it. I could hardly see the cheese. (Maybe its to give the illusion of cheese?) The bun was nice and I wouldnt expect anything less from KLs favourite bakery, but it was slightly burnt. The patty would have been remarkable had it not been so crumbly. I tasted a piece that wasnt covered in honey mustard and it was good. I hope they improve the recipe but in case they havent, I will still come back and order the cheeseburger s.o.s.
The grilled lamb was also not quite there for us. There were no grill marks, and the lamb fat was hardly cooked. Probably pan seared and finished in the oven. Not a bad way of preparation, but some char would have been nice. Some grill marks would be even better. The sauce was alright. I would have loved to have some mint sauce to counter the gaminess but the server told me they dont have mint sauce. The vegetables was a mystery for me. There was so much onions and the rest is carrots, snap peas, cherry tomatoes, 3 pieces of potato and what I didnt understand the most was loose corn all soggy and oily. I would have liked something refreshing like a small salad side to counter the gameyness from the lamb, but sauteed vege is a decent choice. Just maybe not so oily and with loose corn? A better alternative would be broccolis or cauliflowers. Blanched and sauteed of course.the potato redundancy was also a little confusing. Fries and potatoes chunks in my sauteed veges.
Drinks (this i'll keep short) Loved the Iced caramel latte, not too happy abt the honey lemon tea. It tasted.. odd. Not quite honey lemon, not quite lemon tea.
In conclusion, I am certainly going to Dotty's again. I would probably even order the same things because Dotty's does indeed have good food. But good food needs good maintenance. Thank you for a...
Read moreVery bad experience at Dotty's KLCC on 2nd December 2023.
There were empty tables inside, but the staff said those were reserved. So, we had to dine outside. Note to Dotty's: I don't think it's wise to accept reservations at a hotspot/tourist spot like KLCC where foreigners frequent. You're subconsciously declining potential customers who want to immediately dine-in by accepting reservations.
There was a service tax but orders had to be made via a QR code. Upon ordering, it took a really long time for all of our drinks and food to arrive. My father received his fish and chips earlier than his tea. Four of us ordered pastries that were clearly visible in the display racks. But only one of us received the order. We kept seeing the waiter giving pastries to customers at other tables outside, but not us. We asked a waiter where our order was as we didn't receive three items. He then went inside but didn't come back to update us. We saw him carry a peach strudel, thinking it was finally ours, but he gave it to the next table instead, who had just come a few minutes before. We asked the same waiter again and showed us the order page (luckily I still had it opened on my phone). He went inside, came back and said the cinnamon roll was no longer available (which was actually my order). He asked me to change to another menu item. I said no and asked him to remove it from the order list. The other two items (which we didn't receive earlier) finally came to us. The staff/manager never apologised to us for this mess.
Upon paying the bill, my brother, who paid for us, didn't realise that the cinnamon roll was still in the bill. We told him to highlight this with the cashier. When he went to the cashier again, fortunately the manager gave a refund for the cinnamon roll. Nevertheless, they should've taken the item out of the order as we had already told this to the waiter earlier when he mentioned that the cinnamon roll was sold out.
The salted egg cronut was the only thing that did not taste fresh. It's very hard to even cut it with a knife.
To Dotty's KLCC management:
i) Please have your staff attend customer service training because they clearly seem a bit lost sometimes. ii) Please do ensure your pastries (and other food items) are made fresh daily because we pay a lot just to eat them. There's no point in putting them at a high price if the quality is bad. iii) Please upgrade the ordering system and make sure you check that a customer has received all their orders. There must be something wrong with the system that we didn't get three of our orders after such a long time waiting and only received two of them after we asked twice. iv) Please reconsider not taking reservations at this branch. I've mentioned...
Read moreFood: I ordered the Spaghetti Pomodoro Meatballs—something I’ve been craving for a while. Overall, the dish was decent—nothing extraordinary or overly artisan, just a classic marinara spaghetti with homemade meatballs, topped with a sprinkle of parmesan.
The marinara sauce was well-balanced: a nice harmony of sweet, salty, and mild tanginess. The best part? That satisfying moment when you finish the pasta and scoop up the remaining sauce at the bottom—like hitting the jackpot.
You get three medium-sized homemade meatballs. They hold together well, with no unpleasant smell or strong aftertaste—something that makes them enjoyable for just about anyone. That said, I do wish they had been seasoned more generously and seared first to add that extra depth of flavor before being simmered in the sauce.
Service: Service was smooth and efficient. I didn’t have to wait long—everything arrived within 20 minutes. The staff at the front was polite, and there was one middle-aged waiter in particular who stood out for his friendliness and enthusiasm. He checked in to see if everything was okay, which made the experience more pleasant. A good customer service touch.
Atmosphere: If possible, try to dine inside the restaurant. I had intended to, but it was full, so I ended up sitting just outside the entrance—technically still inside the mall, but right next to a building entry/exit. It was uncomfortably hot, stuffy, and noisy, with a constant stream of people walking by.
Maybe it’s just me, but dining outside felt a little demeaning—like the people inside were the elites, and I was the leftover crowd, even though we were all paying the same price. I felt like a peasant. A simple barrier to separate diners from foot traffic would help, and it would be great if the management could work with KLCC to increase airflow or add fans near the entrance.
Price: 1x Spaghetti Pomodoro Meatballs RM29 1x Iced Lemon Tea RM12 Tax / Charges RM6.55
Overall: I’d return for the meatballs—maybe even give a friendly suggestion to the chef to sear them first. I’d also aim for a non-peak time to make sure I get a...
