Gem Restaurant! I had a knee eye on this restaurant as many peers this is an Indian Restaurant. Begin my birthday I thought of having lunch over with my friends. Here is my honest about this restaurant.
The expectation was high, surprising turned to be the other side.
Ordered Soup, Starters, Biryani,
It took nearly 30 mins to deliver Soup, not sure if this the trend over weekends. After taking order no one attends us. Need to be improved. When you are impatient I didn't recommend this restaurant.
Nadhu (Crab ) Soup was okay, but not matching with taste with Anjappar Restaurant which is few blocks away from Gem Restaurant.
Could see serving beers :( you heard it correctly few members were having beers in the restaurant.
Biryani rice qty was less when compared to other restaurant and the chicken was hard, we had to throw away. I would give 1 (least) out of 5
Fish Chilly was having a foul smell, we had to eat as we were a hefty amount.
Finally on the Ginger Garlic chicken was good. ( I would recommend this )
Conclusion Ambience - 4/5 Service - 1/5 Food ( based on the order ) - 2/5
I had informed the quality of food to the serving member, he had instantly given 10%, this wouldn't make any choice for my review.
Note - We realised after washing our hands we could see food colour in our fingers. not acceptable. Preservatives / Food colour is strongly used in foods that are not good for health. Hence be cautious while you enter into this restaurant. ( Images Posted)

Read moreGEM restaurant in Brick Fields is a popular restaurant that serves a variety of Malaysian and Indian dishes. The food is generally good, but the service can be slow and the prices are a bit high.
I have been to GEM restaurant several times, and I have always had a mixed experience. The food is usually very tasty, but the service can be very slow. I have had to wait for over an hour for my food on several occasions. The prices are also a bit high for what you get.
However, there are a few things that GEM restaurant does well. The food is generally of good quality, and the menu has a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The restaurant is also very popular with locals, which is always a good sign.
Overall, I would say that GEM restaurant is worth trying once, but I would not recommend it for repeated visits. The food is good, but the service is slow and the prices are a bit high.
Here is a more detailed breakdown of my experience at GEM restaurant:
Food: 8/10
Service: 5/10
Value for money: 7/10
Atmosphere: 7/10
Overall rating: 7/10
If you are looking for a restaurant in Brick Fields with a wide variety of Malaysian and Indian dishes, then GEM restaurant is a good option. However, be prepared to wait for your food and pay a bit more than you would at other restaurants...

I had intended to visit Vishalatchi Food and Catering which is at Jalan Scotts – about 15 minutes walk. However due to our luggages and most importantly – my wife’s foot which is constantly in pain – I decided to randomly to pick a restaurant nearby. We crossed over to the opposite side of Nu Sentral and chose Gem restaurant. Golden rule is not to go to an empty restaurant. It was packed. Forturnately we did not wait too long for a table. Ambience is little on the aged look. As usual, we placed our normal order of aloo gobi (MYR10.90) and Yellow Dall (MYR10.90) whenever we are having Indian cuisine. Both dishes met my expectations. It will go well with the garlic naan (MYR5) Tandoori chicken (MYR24.90) was tender and juicy. However, the portion was too much for 3 of us. Prawn biryani (MYR19.90) was flavoured with strong spices and herbs. As matter of fact, I find the dishes here are very richly in spice and herbs flavour. Fish masala (MYR19.90) was a palatable dish full of onions and flavourful herbs. If you like spicy and strongly flavoured Indian food, Gem should be ideal...
