So... I had my CNY eve dinner here with my family on (15/2/2018). It's our first time here and to my surprise this place was horrible. Let's start with the restaurant itself, ambiance was fairly nice as the restaurant tries hard to make it cozy by using warm color changing lights. There were times so bright and there were times so dark. That aside, the table we were seated at was so congested for 11 persons and there was a sofa behind our table. So i cant help thinking if the restaurant actually brought in more customers than they actually accommodate because there were also tables placed around the restaurant which looked so offed.

Never mind the seating and all, about the food. So first, I must say i am not sure if it was the lighting or the crowd or the foods' presentations but it took me 5 rounds of walking to actually decide to start eating because nothing seemed appealing. Okay, so maybe it was my problem for judging the book by its cover. Now time for the taste, I only had the tempuras, miso soup, grilled beef, grilled lamb, grilled chicken, grilled mussels, grilled "sepak" clams, grilled fish and chocolate cake. (Note: there was only one way of cooking for the foods i ate, had to make this clear cause i cant remember the names of the dish.)

Tempuras - The batter was soggy and most of the batter was falling of whatever was being fried. The flavour, just a mouthful of oil.

Miso soup - The lid of the pot didnt even match the pot. Oh dear.. It seems diluted at first, but after tasting it, it confirms the thought of it being diluted miso soup with extra lot of salt.

Grilled beef, grilled lamb, grilled chicken - it is almost like they use the same base for the sauces of the three meats even though the sauce is named differently. Furthermore, the beef and lamb were all overcooked to the extend the meats were dry and it felt like eating rubber. Only the chicken had a better texture but the sauce was terrible too.

Grilled mussels and "sepak" clams - fresh seafood? wasn't fresh at all, the seafood counter smelled so fishy that even a wet market would be better.. in fact, i had 5 mussels and clams so i am not saying it wasnt fresh from just eating one of it. So, the grilling style was the typical malaysian chili style where you'd find in food courts or markets but the mussels and clams were mushy and the juice gave out some of the rotten fishy flavor. (Note: my relatives who had raw oysters were all down with diarrhea that night)

Grilled fish - This fish wasnt from the raw seafood counter like the mussels and clams, but it was grilled from the kitchen cause it was super big. Big fishes tend to be harder to cook because of its tough flesh texture, grilling is a good idea to get rid of the fishy tatse but they grilled the fish to the extend it was dry and i guess they just didnt season enough because the fish was tasteless even with the sauce provided. I dont know what sauce was it though, it was green and also couldnt make the fish taste better. Not to mention the fish was alrd cooled.

Chocolate cake - just plain dry and super sweet with no chocolate flavour. I also noticed they had a certain cheesecake in the display refrigerator near the entrance but the cake had...

Came here for a team dinner since we've always been to Lemon Garden and thought we'd give Traders a try. We split the team into two and had two dinners here on separate dates. The first time was a disaster and a bad impression I feel will stick for a long time to come.

When we arrived all food items were properly displayed but as more diners arrived, it was clear that they were severely lacking of manpower. I felt a bit bad seeing how hard the kitchen staff were working and everyone seemed to be doing their best while keeping a smile, with one exception - the slightly chubby guy at the sashimi counter. Nik, i believe was the name on his uniform, was throwing a tantrum. As I went back for more sashimi, all plates were empty. It was obvious that he was struggling as he alone had to fill up all the sushi and sashimi. I didn't make any complains but instead just stood there patiently waiting for it to be refilled, only to be told rather rudely to go somewhere else and come back again. I wasn't actually in the mood for any other items but I did move to the oyster section and watched the othe (friendly) guy shuck oysters while waiting so as not to give him too much pressure. 2 minutes later when the sashimi was sliced, the sashimi guy literally CHUCKED the plate on the ice right in front of me and rolled his eyes. He then returned to his chopping board and threw something else around making very loud banging noises and making it clear to anyone and everyone in his vicinity that he was extremely unhappy.

It is quite offensive given we have tried to be as understanding as we could and did not blame him for not being able to cope and fill up dishes. I even gave him a smile and told him not to worry when I had to wait for the sashimi but in return, got treated as if our presence was an absolute inconvenience and as if we were beggars waiting to be fed. I actually lost my appetite after this incident.

I was tempted to cancel our second team's dinner and change it to another venue but to make it fair for the team we decided to proceed our second dinner at gobo chit-chat all the same. It was much better the second time round as there were less diners on that day. The dessert station and floor staff were super friendly, polite and prompt with service. The same guy was manning the sashimi counter. His mood appeared to have improved from the week before but I was cautious still.

No doubt there is a decent variety of seafood offered on their weekend buffet, and the price makes it good value for money especially for golden circle members but the service of one staff was bad enough to deter me from returning again. I wouldn't subject myself to the potential of being at the receiving end of such rude service again.

If it weren't for the extremely friendly and helpful staff at the dessert station and the waitstaff clearigng dishes on the floor, I would have probably given...

We had an awful experience at Gobo Chit Chat for our ramadhan buka puasa yesterday for the following reasons we decided we ought to write a review:

  1. My Wife specifically requested at the time of booking ( 2 days before ) for a corner seating / the more private side as we have a baby stroller and a pregnant lady as to have more privacy and to have less noise pollution. However when we arrived at 7pm yesterday all the corner tables were taken up and worst was they missed out on our reservation. Weird part is the hotel reconfirmed our reservation by calling us on that day how could they miss this out? We initially didnt want to make a big fuss and saw a table fit for 6pax so we could occupy it but the hotel staff told us the table had been taken up by someone which was not true as we found out at 9.30pm when we left the restaurant the table was still vacant. They decided to put us at the table closest to the entrance of the restaurant which you could imagine with a stroller and pregnant lady..

  2. Food selection was very poor and quality was bad. The only edible food was the roast lamb. The grilled clams which someone would cook for you was uncooked. The grilled fish fillet was drenched in oil and was very salty. The quality of the sushi was like the pasar malam standard as the sushi rice was wet. The dessert cakes were dry and super sweet for even our dessert lovers standards from France that use to stay at your hotel for more than 3 months.

  3. There we no indication or signage as which direction we needed to queue from for the hotel staff to serve us the food. Some of the corners were not even blocked off as we saw some of the guests helping their self with the food. At times especially when guests are starting to leave there wasn't anyone attending the counters. So we had to wait for a few minutes before someone even realise we were standing there. This happened at the cold drink counter and sushi counter.

  4. The durian that was given for us to takeaway was perhaps the cause for my wife vomiting 3 times last night. Or it might have been the other food. Only my wife had the durian as she got home and she had food poisoning at 6am today.

With this I hope that the standards of the ramadhan buffet can be improved and paying rm111 for a buffet spread like this wasn't worth it and sadly we would not be back anytime soon due to this. Initially I thought of just letting this one go but after seeing my wife in and out of the toilet made me frustrated to...

7 Feb - Price per pax is RM188nett (I only found out after dining that the usual price is RM168nett). The price hike is due to CNY which will last till 16 Feb 2020. This taught me a lesson to enquire about pricing discrepancies during festive season as the receptionist will not be so kind to tell you WE DO HAVE DIFFERENT PRICING ON XX date onward. The ambience was fine but the AC was bad. The restaurant only have 3-4 tables occupied (approximately 20 pax) and I can't feel the AC. I did not highlight much as the main focus should be on the food. Overall the seafood is fresh and we think the crab is best cooked with steam method as the salted egg needed more improvement. The chilly crab gravy nothing too fancy and the fried mantau only given extra when request (i,e, 2 crabs only comes with 2 mini mantau) . There is also yee sang corner for patrons to create their own. The crackers were running out fast. There is also sashimi (salmon, tuna, ) and sushi - nothing too fancy. The general buffet dishes are mostly salty/heavier taste buds. The dessert on that night was pear dessert (too sugary taste) and the bubur cha cha was so bad (too thick). Durian crepe is good. Fried nian gao was average. There's ice cream too but nothing too fancy. The lamb was so average for the price of the buffet per head. Iced/warm water is FOC and located at the far end corner. And when we request to have small jug/urn for iced water, the staffs mentioned we don't supply. Suggestion:- Perhaps the staff who's cleaning the plates/cutlery can hold a jug and refill water for guests? I bet is not too much to ask for. Billing - I am using voucher and my spouse will be paying per head price. When I present my Golden Circle membership for 20% off, cashier told me that can only accumulate points since one of us is using voucher. I stared at her and then request to separate the bill. Overall experience could be improved from the beginning if guest is informed on the pricing discrepancies and when it comes to billing part if there's option to separate the bill should have just done it automatically WITHOUT guest asking for it. I bet if I am not firm I would not able to enjoy the 20% off.

I had high expectations for this Ramadan buffet, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment, especially for the RM100++ price tag. The food selection was limited, which wouldn’t have been an issue if the quality was good—but unfortunately, most dishes were poorly prepared. The Malay cuisine was a disaster, with the ayam masak merah being dry, overcooked, and tasteless. The lala masak oyster sauce was a strange and unappetizing choice, and there was only one noodle option, with no goreng-goreng dishes like mee goreng or nasi goreng kampung, which should be standard for a Malay buffet. The kambing golek was the biggest disappointment—it was not even on a proper griller or fire, a clear attempt to cheat customers into thinking they were getting freshly grilled lamb. The quality was so bad that everyone who ate it ended up with stomach aches and had to rush to the toilet multiple times after getting home. The much-hyped assam pedas station was another failure, with the gravy being an odd black color and completely lacking the signature tangy, spicy taste. The grill station was a joke—even the udang was not fresh or properly cleaned, which is completely unacceptable for a buffet of this price. The desserts were equally disappointing, with cakes that looked nice but tasted artificial and dry—the only good one was the kuih ketayap. Even the watermelon was sad and unappetizing. The entire buffet station was poorly organized, making it inconvenient to navigate, and the drinks section had no staff assisting guests, leading to a messy experience. The only saving grace was the kurma and Arab desserts, but that’s hardly enough to justify the cost. This buffet is absolutely not worth RM100++, and I strongly urge the management to improve the quality, ensure food safety, and rethink the way they organize their offerings. If no improvements are made, I would not recommend this buffet to anyone.

Smooth buggy service and comfortable booth seating. The Asian kitchen and cold kitchen was excellent — raw salmon, scallops, and stingray were fresh and delicious. These were the best. Was given a freshly made Wagyu Burger. Really appreciate it. Loved the creative desserts like churros and durian crepes. Mousse was good too. The birthday cake (a cheesecake) was yummy. The staff even sang Happy Birthday — a thoughtful gesture. Refund was processed immediately — very efficient service. What could be improved: - Octopus was too thick and tough, and lobster cheese sauce had no flavor. - Wellington was dry and tough and lamb was gamy; no mint sauce was available. - I was served a teaspoon for my soup as there were no soup spoons around (at all). - The fondue came with no strawberries until I asked — I was only given four pieces total for two guests and told they were limited, which felt unfair for a buffet. - Ice cream had a powdery texture, and the Bandung was so pink it felt overly artificial. - Churros weren’t replenished timely — many guests waited. Apparently the chefs intended to bring home the last batch themselves. In the end they served it. - Most Western dishes were bland or overcooked. - First time ever seeing “Happy Birthday” written with marker pen on the plate instead of chocolate writing. I was shocked.
