A lot of people commented how they are underwhelmed/not impressed.
This bowl might not be for everyone, but to the regulars the pipping hot noodles and the warmth of the stall owners are their nostalgic/daily comfort. They got super busy at later time and yes parking is hard to find. My sister only comes the time they open. My dad used to bring us here, since I was 8 or 9, now I’m in my forties. The stall owners recognize my sister since she still comes on her own. The broth might have a lot of msg, but everything else is perfect: bouncy fish balls and fish cake that you can taste sweetness of the fish, fish wonton that is rare to see nowadays (and taste good), zhu you zha (豬油渣, pork lard) that is fried to perfection, bean sprout from Ipoh (chubby and juicy), and topped with Chinese celery garnish.
Note: some felt their fishballs are fishy but I believe their fishballs make mainly by fish (西刀魚, ikan parang) and not a lot of extra ingredients, hence the fish taste is very prominent; while other places use various type of fish, add more flour to make it bigger,“white” color, and less fish taste. A mixture of substance “pang sha” also added in order to make the less fish ratio fish ball to be bouncy (normally left a “squeegee” feeling when you...
Read moreSaw this on social media and had to pay a visit. Been wanting to find some old school local food and not so easy to find within KL city. It's just a less than 10 minutes walk from Hang Tuah station and the moment I arrived, I saw this old school coffeeshop and the stall was located inside. Visited on a weekday morning and it was crowded at all. Could get a table easily and I ordered the noodles and watched the auntie prepared the meal. It seems like a family business and the auntie's son is actually the one preparing the drinks and the father collecting the money. For 17RM, I had a big bowl of noodles with fishballs and fish dumplings and also an iced milo. It's considered very reasonable for a meal. The dish just tasted very old school, very homely feel like it was prepared by someone at home. The fishballs were chewy in a good way, and the fish dumplings were pretty loaded with ingredients. The soup was so light but so flavourful. A very good bowl of fishball noodles soup, and you can also order the dry version if it is to your liking. Fishball noodles generally tastes better with soup, though it's a disadvantage to have it on a sunny morning and the coffeeshop is not air-conditioned. Nevertheless a very hearty bowl of noodles which I...
Read moreRandomly chanced upon this coffeeshop under a block of public flat. There is only 1 stall in the coffeeshop if I am not wrong and they sell fishball noodle. This coffeeshop seems like it has been around for quite sometime. Reached there slightly after lunch time therefore there wasnt any crowd.
Fishball noodle comes in 2 size, prices starting from MYR$7.50 onwards. Paid MYR$11.50 for my meal as i added on additional fish paste wanton. Food didn't took long to be ready even though the stall was one man operations. Portion was generous, the bowl of noodle comes with fishball, sliced fishcake and the fish paste wanton. Soup looks clear but was flavorful, i loved how the lard enhanced the taste of the soup.
Overall, food was amazing and I will highly recommend. I found that this is actually a popular breakfast spot with the local after a conversation i had with a...
