I've been here several times over the years throughout their many name changes lol but despite the different names, the food has always been consistent. I appreciate the consistency.
They do not have authentic Japanese flavours, but, I'd say this place is Japanese-inspired for sure. To be honest, their mains are quite average to me so don't put too high hopes on their mains. Their spicy food is freaking, RIDICULOUSLY spicy, even for someone that loves spicy food like myself. Do yourself a favour and get a level 1 or 2 spicy level to actually enjoy the food. I cannot stress this enough. Remember, what comes in, must go out; and if it burns going in, it burns going out. Thank me later.
If there's anything you should get, I'd say get the sushi platter to share. But one thing I will say though: their vegan cheesecake and tiramisu is to freaking DIE for. Every single non vegan I bring to this restaurant are blown away by the texture and flavours. KUSA should just open a cake house. I will visit every single day.
Unfortunately their drinks menu is not extensive and is only either coffee or (very) sour drinks. I think they introduced tea recently. I always only get plain water here.
Food presentations are always good and the restaurant is tastefully designed. My single vegans, take your first dates here. But, take note that it is located in a creepy looking office building (it is near Changkat after all so can have drinks there after your dinner). Just don't try to act tough and order the spicy level 5 ramen, OK? Your date will not be impressed. Some days there are queues so best to make a reservation for groups. Prices are on the...
Read moreI want to love it, as it is great to have more vegan options around, but I can't. I've been twice to this place, as I thought a second chance was deserved.
I had ramen both times I was there, and shared some appetisers (the tempura and fried tempeh) and tried some of my friend's fried rice as well. The food is really bland. I'm a long time vegetarian, so I know that vegetarian food doesn't have to be bland. I noticed another commenter mentioning that Supe doesn't use any garlic or onions which really explains the blandness. It's not bland in that its lacking salt, it just lacks seasoning. Everything tastes flat. The miso soup doesn't taste much like miso. The spicy is not spicy. Even the lack of garlic and onion doesn't explain it, as I've eaten plenty of Buddhist (onion and garlic free) vegan food which were decently seasoned.
Furthermore the toppings on the ramen are really lacklustre and the portions are pretty meagre. I say this as a person who normally eats tiny portions - I left both times feeling hungry. For one of my ramens the toppings were just a small spoonful of wakame and a few small diced raw tofu cubes (unseasoned). No other vegetables even though there are so many vegetarian toppings for ramen - beansprouts, menma, seaweed, mushrooms, seasoned tofu, eggplant, etc. The other ramen I ordered was tempura, so it came with a few small pieces of tempura and nothing else. I'm not expecting anything near a meat ramen, but surely a few vegan toppings would not hurt?
Anyway, I can't recommend and wouldn't take someone here. I can say that service was...
Read moreI have been coming to this restaurant for nearly two years or so. They used to be known as Supe KL. It is normally my brunch spot, whenever I would like to have Japanese styled vegetarian food. So far, they have always impressed me with their dynamic menu and in my recent visit, I sighted changes where it includes food preparation being more inclined to Korean and Chinese styles.
I normally start my brunch there with their Curry Tempeh dish. Its nicely spiced, fried fermented soya bean, cut in small cubes. That wakes up my appetite. Crunchy Tempura gives you a moment to enjoy their soft fried dishes in a thin batter and dunked in soy sauce. I also went with their Takuan Maki, being 6 pieces of the rice roll with pickled radish. One of my favourite is their All-In-One Sushi options where you can choose 6, 10 or 20 servings of various vegan sushi. I opted for 6 sushi, so that I will have the opportunity to enjoy their new dish, Jjajiang Ramen. The noodle comes with their homemade mushroom sauce and it is indeed delicious.
To wash it all down, I had their Lemon Juice without ice. The restaurant can be crowded during lunch-time and dinner time, so if you are coming in a group, do call and try to make a reservation. Food price is reasonable, compared to some vegan restaurants.
Service is prompt, but you may need to wait a bit, understandably when being there during peak hours. They got a very courteous service crew as well. A treasure pot for vegetarians, vegans and anyone who wish to try their array of wonderful...
