The 1 star goes to the renovation of the place and their beautiful cutleries. It does have very good deco. However, that's where it stops. Service: Firstly, making reservations online is definitely a big problem. They take ages to reply and do not inform you that you have successfully made a reservation, leaving you confused whether you have a reservation. After pre-ordering, they informed that 2 of the dishes were unavailable. However, when we arrived, 3 were unavailable. Secondly, when we wanted to pay and take away, there was nobody paying attention to the tables nor anyone at the dining area/reception counter and we spent 5 minutes there waiting. Not exactly the best experience. Food: The food was extremely disappointing. The beef mai was horrible, the garnish was unevenly placed, with this black pepper sauce that was sliding off the siew mai and the sizes of the siew mai was also uneven. The beef was not fresh and the skin was too thick. The traditional siew mai has better skin and was definitely more supple, with the caviar being placed properly, but it didn't exactly have a wow factor for the price either. The fried dim sum was also a horror because of the recycled oil used, the taste of the recycled oil was so overpowering it was difficult to palate. For the Peking duck, the wrap was fine, thought it was with great regret that I say that it was being carved without a carving knife and it felt as if she was struggling. The fried rice that was made with half the duck was also disappointing as the meat was diced so finely you could not even taste the duck, and the rice again had the taste of recycled oil. The beancurd dates and golden mushroom was pathetic. I saw one slice of mushroom and could not find my dates. The iberico pork also did not taste good, though it's hard to explain. Drinks: The poor tea leaves... the Long Jing Tea we had was brewed with boiling hot water that damaged the quality of the tea leaves so it was not as fragrant as it should have been, which was a waste of good tea leaves.
Overall, it was extremely disappointing, especially with the price being charged in...
Read moreLess than a month into the opening i was disappointed with the food and service. Please note the previous reviews which are older than a month are from their previous restaurant. Since then they have refurbished and revamped their restaurant with a new chef. The restaurant is beautiful and the food when it did eventually arrive was good, however in comparison to many existing Chinese restaurants in KL you can get the same flavors minus the price tag and having to wait 50 minutes for a dish. The staff were lost and i can imagine it was from everyone complaining why is their food taking so long, but from their service they were not familiar with their menu and they were not serving tea promptly and we had to ask to be served constantly. There were 8 of us and ordered 6 dishes which took the kitchen 3 hours to serve with more than 20 minutes waiting time per dish. The spanish iberico pork with lychee and macadamia nut is just a version of your sweet and sour pork with pieces of lychee in there. The dishes i would recommend if you wanted to give this a go would be the fried rice, the pork pastry, hot and sour soup, fried avocado and the rest was average. We were left with a nice bill, still hungry and ended up at another restaurant for a more satisfying meal. At the end as the previous review mentioned, it took them over 20 minutes to process payment and when asked the answer we got was "the other machine is not working so we only have 1", now for a 5 star establishment this is just a joke. If the restaurant is going to charge customers for it's ambience, service and great food i would definitely say this restaurant did not meet those expectations at all. We were left frustrated, hungry in a pretty setting, completely disappointed and...
Read moreLi Yen Restaurant, located in a hotel, offers a truly refined dining experience. The food is undeniably delicious, made with incredibly fresh ingredients that give every bite a rich, satisfying texture. While I may not be able to fully appreciate the high-end nature of the cuisine, there’s no denying the quality of the dishes. However, I feel that even at a regular dim sum shop, I’d also be quite happy. The taste at Li Yen is exceptional, but the price tag makes it hard to justify frequent visits. Each dish is quite expensive—expect to spend around RM200+ per person. That said, for those looking to experience something luxurious at least once in their lifetime, this restaurant is definitely worth a try. The ambiance and service are, of course, top-notch, as you’d expect from a five-star hotel. However, it’s not the easiest place to find—it took us quite a bit of wandering to finally locate it. If you don’t have someone to guide you, it can be a bit of a challenge to navigate. One dish that stood out to me was their snow skin mooncake. It was absolutely delightful, though it comes at a price—about RM25 for just one piece. Similarly, the dumplings were delicious, but at RM25 for four pieces, it’s certainly not something I could afford regularly. The same goes for the siu mai, which is also RM25 for four. As much as I enjoyed the food, the price does make it difficult to recommend it as a regular dining spot. Overall, Li Yen is a great option if you’re looking for a special occasion meal in an elegant setting. Just keep in mind that it’s on the pricier side, so it might not be for everyone. But if you’re seeking a taste of luxury, it’s certainly a place...
