For any late-night supper aficionados, Hokkien Mee (also known rather crudely as 'Tai Loke Mee') is a must-have....but for the slightly matured supper goers, its a health luxury that can only be afforded once in a while.
So opportune it was for me, one late evening whilst in downtown KL to stop and revisit Mun Wah Hokkien Mee as it has been years since our last visit.....and this was definitely a great decision! 👍
The Hokkien Mee was superbly done with so much 'Wok Hei'....it was very close before the bitter burnt taste. Now, this is no easy feat for the cook as it takes years to master the timing of bringing such intensity of taste embellished by the 'wok hei'. Then again, this shop has been serving Hokkien Mee as its signature noodles for decades!
To top that, this Hokkien Mee was not loaded with lard pieces. Yes, it was there but it wasn't like most PJ style Hokkien Mee where they dish out and top the noodles with small mountains of lard pieces ....that potentially will finance the purchase of bungalows for my Cardiologist. 😃
Mun Wah Hokkien Mee depended very much on quality dark soy, plentiful ingredients, and techniques in the cook itself.
We thoroughly enjoyed hot piping plate of Hokkien Mee in no time. But a surprise for this revisit was the Fried Fish Cake whilst waiting for the noodles. Just simply cannot get enough of the tasty Fish Cake! We also ordered the 'Bak Kau Th'ng', and this was also different from others in that you can really taste the addition of Sesame Oil used in cooking and preparation of the soup.
After reading my review, do attempt to make a visit and taste-try the Hokkien Mee. This is what i would call a 'Old Skool Taste' Hokkien Mee and one that is so different from the PJ Hokkien Mee full of lard pieces. Go and taste the difference! You will not regret it.

Read moreI’ve come here a few times and really love the food—especially the lobak, which is honestly one of the best I’ve ever had. The taste keeps bringing us back, even though the environment is quite poor and uncomfortable.
It’s quite warm, the space is limited, and there are very few tables. One thing that really turned us off was seeing a staff member spitting directly onto the floor just outside the restaurant, right where they place the tables. It felt very unhygienic.
However, I’m really disappointed with how the service has declined. Maybe it’s because the place has become more popular, but the staff attitude has changed. The chef was unfriendly, and the person taking our order was rude. We were ignored when trying to order until we had to ask directly. There’s no menu, so we needed a bit of time to decide, but he seemed impatient.
When we went to the cashier to pay, we were being ignored again and chased by the person who took our order as we are blocking their way in a very impolite manner. A simple polite request would’ve been much better.
We ordered 2 small Yuet Kwong Ho, 1 small Hokkien Mee, and 2 sets of lobak, which came to RM88. At the time, there were only 2–3 tables dining inside, yet we still had to wait 40 minutes for our food. The long wait was surprising given how few customers were there.
We still love the food, but the service really needs improvement. Hope they take this...
Read moreSaved this place for quite some time ago after reading many positive reviews about this place on social media. Happened to be staying around this area and decided to come by here for dinner. Reached the place slightly after 5.45pm, and i was ushered to table inside the restaurant. While i was there, there was already 3 tables of diners. Ordered their stir fried Hokkien dailok mee and their signature fried chicken wings. Shortly after i seated, more diners started to pour in. Food didn't took long to be ready.
hokkien mee's portion is quite generous considering the fact that it was just for a person. Noodle was extremely oily as it was fried with generous amount of lard. The plate of noodle came with ingredient like prawn, liver and pork slices. Taste wise, very average. Had better one elsewhere. I didnt finish my noodle as it was simply too jelat. The saving grace probably has to be the the chicken wing. It was crispy and wasn't too oily. Chicken wing was well marinated as well.
Overall, the food didn't lives up to its expectation. Probably wont recommend. Paid MYR$31.50 for my meals which...
