Park Hyatt is the highest tier in the Hyatt brand, and it’s signature is modern contemporary luxury with spacious rooms and great service. This is as I recalled, the second skyscraper hotel opened by Hyatt, the first being Park Hyatt Shanghai. Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is located in the Merdeka 118 tower, the 2nd tallest building in the world ( the first is Burj Khalifa in Dubai ). Occupying the top floors of the tower, the hotel offers views of Kuala Lumpur skyline all around. Despite it has just opened for 2 months and as expected, newly opened hotels usually come with some quirks, I decided to try for one night. ||Arrival||I decided to book the hotel limo for easy airport transfer and convenience. Prior to check-in I wrote to enquire if they offer in-room check-in which is usually the standard procedure for luxury hotel guest booking limo. This arrangement was confirmed. ||The ride was a standard Mercedes E-Class. The driver was experienced a bit of cold, so despite he put on a mask, he was coughing throughout the journey but did apologise profusely. On arrival a female staff was there to greet me and escorted me directly to the room for in-room check in. On the way to my room, I took a quick glance at the arrival lobby at 75th floor, with its soaring high ceiling and beautiful decorated in contemporary luxury. There’s only two desk for check-in so during a busy time, one can expect a bit of waiting. |||The Twin Tower Room||I am not exactly sure what is the category of room they assigned to me but the room is massive and spacious, with wrap around floor to ceiling windows, and yes, iconic views of Petronas Towers and KL Tower. I estimate it measures at least 60sqm and is basically a junior suite, There are a lot of walking space in the room making it felt very spacious. There is a sitting area and a small dinning table. The bed is a King Size bed, flanked by of course spacious side table counter top. The bathroom is equally massive, with ensuite bath, a large bowl-shape bathtub and a very spacious walk in shower. The bathroom is open concept so one can look into the bathroom from the bedroom with that added sense of space. However, unlike some other hotels that adopted this concept, it can be shielded for additional privacy. ||Everything is top quality and very luxurious as expected of a Park Hyatt. Nothing really to complain about especially for the price I paid. The only thing missing is a working desk. Not sure why they don’t incorporate that. Oh..there is also a full size walk-in wardrobe for those who travel with suitcases of clothings. ||Also deserving mentioning is the very generous welcome amenities, including chocolates and some snacks, a bowl of tropical fruits and even a very nice bottle of wine and a hand written welcome note from the Hotel Director of Rooms. Very well done. 👍🏼||As for the view, I would say, despite my room being at level 107 and I can literally see floating clouds, it is not as impressive as say views in cities like Hong Kong or Tokyo where the entire skyline glitters. There’s some light display at night from Twin towers and KL towers but it’s a bit underwhelming to be honest by comparison. By day, I think it looks better as the city skyline unfolds underneath your feet, with some lush greeneries. ( see photos ). ||There are some nitpicks about the room. The lack of a proper working desk is one thing which business travelers might find annoying. Also the light switches are confusing and the labels hard to read. There is also no TV in the bathroom ( a nitpick ), but at this price, perhaps they should have included one. The television can be swing and pivot but the angle of rotation is limited so it is awkward to watch the TV on the bed at an angle. |||Common Areas and Location||The hotel main lobby and dinning venue is at the 75th floor, with the all day dinning venue / meeting area called “Park Lounge” and also a restaurant Merdeka Grill. The other facilities like Spa and Fitness centre are located in separate floors. One unique point of the hotel is that there is no need to press the lift button. Upon reading the card, the lift knowns which floor the guest is staying. Quite smart. ||I had breakfast at the Park Lounge. It features several live kitchen station. The food is good, but I won’t say it is outstanding. A little disappointed as I think it can be much better. The buffet spread is a little smaller than the usual lavish 5-star hotel offering. As for the Merderka Grill, I booked it for dinner just to used up the F&B credits that come with my stay but the meal was not great. I will have a separate review on that. |||The hotel is located within the Merdeka 118 tower which is still partially under construction. Once fully completed, it will come with it’s own mall. Hopefully it is as impressive as the new TRX mall. There is a MRT station but it’s not connected to Merdeka 118, but a 200m walk away or roughly 10 to 15 mins walk. While this doesn’t sound much, to walk to the building means climbing an inclined slope and walking in open uncovered space in KL’s hot weather is not a great idea. Hopefully when everything is opened and finished there is an underground tunnel linking the MRT station to the the building. Otherwise there is also grab which is very cheap and convenient in Kuala Lumpur. I was told everything should be ready by middle of next year so we will see. |||Service||I find service to be polite and competent. I didn’t experienced thankfully the service lapse that others complained in their stay as this is a new hotel. But they also didn’t really go the extra mile that top tier luxury hotel chains like Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton and Mandarin Oriental usually do. This has been my impression of Park Hyatt hotels in general, great hard product, efficient service but lack that bit of “spark”. |||Conclusion||The hotel has beautiful rooms, decent service. Areas that need to improve further are F&B. Location is a draw back for now but once the integrated mall is finished and there is a direct MRT connection, then things will change for the better. Still, it’s an incredible value as I paid only MYR1600++ a night, which in any more expensive cities will cost at least 2X to 3X as much, thus there is good value proposition. I know it sounds ironic to say MYR1600++ a night is value proposition given other 5star hotels in Kuala Lumpur typically cost MYR1000 a night or less but they don’t really have the wow factor that this hotel offers. An overall rating of 4/5 and I think it’s...
Read moreHow do you judge a hotel to be exceptional? Every places have the potential to be good when everythig goes as planned. An exceptional place is a place that knows how to handle thing when things did not go as planned. This is the case wih Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.||Reservation was done on the hotel official site. It went smoothly. A small minor gripe when I arrived at the hotel was a lack of proper and prominent signage as to how to get to the hotel entrance. This is however, due to construction around PNB 118 Building where the hotel is situated, ||Check in formality was handled by Ms Farhana at the lobby. She was very corteous and efficient in handling her job. I was given a tour of the facilities available on the 75th Floor where the Lobby is situated. As the room was not ready when I arrived, I was offered tea while I waited. Ms Farhana came to inform me when the room was ready and personnaly escorted me to the room. This is quite common in other 5-star properties in the area. However, in contrast, Shangri-La KL staff only pointed to the elevators, "The lifts are there".||The room that I booked was the Tower View Room. It was nicely equipped and quite spacious. The walk-in closet and the bathroom section was even bigger than some rooms at other hotels of the same category. One can see the KL Tower, KLCC and the TRX tower from the room. On a clear day, one can also see the lights of Genting Highland. My friend and I went out for dinner and some shopping at nearby Bukit Bintang area which was easily accesible by the MRT. The station was literally steps away. When we came back at around midnight was when things started to go wrong. I have read some people complained about hot water in the bathroom on TripAdvisor. Thinking that it might be due to the fact that the hotel was just opened when the review was written, I did not expect that the hot water problem would be an issue on my stay. But it happened, there was no hot water coming out from the shower, the sink or the bathtub. Called Guest Servive to report the problem and after 2 calls and my insistence to talk to the Manager, finally maintenance personnel together with the Duty Manager came to the room to rectify the issue. Ms Charleenie, the Duty Manager, handled the situation very professionally even though I was a bit pissed off at the time. This sort of issue should not have happened at one of the top 5 star property. I would not elaborate here, but suffice to say that Ms Charleenie was excellent in her duty. A pat on the back for her. The issue was sorted out after about 30 minutes and we had hot water. Ms Charleenie then contacted me on Whatsapp assuring us that she and her team would be available should I need any other assistance. As a compensation, she offered us a choice of complimentary Lunch, Afternoon Tea or Dinner. My friend and I later decided on Afternoon Tea which was exceptional, a reason alone to come and visit the hotel even if you are not staying. So thing was ok that night, however the hot water again was not available the next morning. Again Ms Charleenie came to our rescue and even stayed beyond her hours to assist us in moving to another room which was a upgrade to a Corner Room, a much bigger with nicer view. We moved after breakfast and Ms Charleenie personally escorted us to the new room. By this time, it was almost 3 hours past her duty period. It showed the level of service. Again, kudos to her.||Breakfast. Wow....the staff namely Mr Qusyairi, Mr Imran, Mr Saiful, Ms Farah and Outlet Manager Mr Jonah were of another level. They were beyond superb. It was also nice to see local Malaysians being employed as opposed to hiring foreigners as front liners (most YTL Hotels such as Pangkor Laut Resort, Tanjong Jara Resort, Majestic Melaka and Cameron Highlands Resort tend to hire foreigners as front liners). The concept of limited buffet item with unlimited a-la-carte menu showcased the exceptional food items available. Qusyairi recommended that we try the Beef Noodle, The Garoupa Congee and the Dim Sum. The Beef Noodle was to die for. Kaya Toast recommended by Mr Jonah was an interesting twist on a local coffee shop item. In short, I would stay at the hotel again just for the breakfast. If Grand Hyatt in the city center was known for its massive buffet spread, Park Hyatt excel in well selected and delicious items.||The 2 night stay at the hotel was simply too short. My expectation was high when I made the booking. It met my expectation on arriving. However it fell well below expectation, to the point of me thinking that this is the worst 5 star hotel that I ever stayed. Thanks to Ms Charleenie and the rest, the hotel exceeded my expectation. The best in the city so far, far surpassing my previous favourite hotel, The Mandarin Oriental KLCC. Any hotel can be a good hotel when all go as planned. An exceptional hotel is a hotel that manage to excel even when things did not go as planned.||A bit of a side note.... this I found happened at most hotels. The issue of how to greet a Malaysian of a Malay race. We do not have a last name like westerners. As in the case of my name, Mr Razak is not a correct way of addressing me, as Mr Razak is my father, not my last name. I should be greeted as Mr Adli. A hotel that is situated in Malaysia should know this. A bit of a cultural sensitivity goes a long way.||Having said that, would I comeback. Of course, within a heart beat. The...

My recent stay at the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur was nothing short of extraordinary — a seamless blend of ultra-modern luxury, architectural marvel, and sky-high serenity. Newly opened and already setting a benchmark for five-star hospitality in Malaysia, this hotel occupies the uppermost floors of Merdeka 118, the second-tallest building in the world, and currently holds the title of Malaysia’s tallest hotel.
Arrival & First Impressions
From the moment I stepped into the hotel’s discreet yet sophisticated entrance, I was greeted with the signature Park Hyatt refinement. The check-in experience was calm, personal, and efficient — thanks in particular to Chelsea at the front desk, who ensured the process went smoothly, even though the room was not immediately ready. I also greatly appreciated Aaron from the concierge, whose warm welcome and attentive care with my luggage felt seamless.
There’s something surreal about ascending over a hundred floors in silence — a prelude to the serenity that awaited.
The Park Deluxe Suite – Elevated Living
I stayed in the Park Deluxe Suite, an expansive 115-square-meter sanctuary located on Level 105 — currently the highest room category available. The feeling of being quite literally above the clouds is hard to put into words. Kuala Lumpur unfolded beneath me like a living diorama, with unobstructed views of the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, and TRX Exchange.
The suite itself exuded understated elegance — high ceilings, curated contemporary furnishings, marble accents, and floor-to-ceiling windows that made the most of the sky-high setting.
A special thank you to Aishah from the reservations team, who provided prompt and helpful responses via email in the lead-up to my stay, and to Charleenie, the Assistant Manager, who greeted me warmly during check-in and made me feel immediately at home.
Dining at Park Lounge – Refined & Relaxed
I had the pleasure of experiencing both breakfast and afternoon tea at the Park Lounge, a venue that perfectly captures the Park Hyatt ethos — quiet luxury with a view.
Breakfast was a curated selection of international and local offerings, served with the poise and elegance you’d expect from a brand like Park Hyatt. Ingredients were fresh, the presentation impeccable, and the atmosphere tranquil, with the city skyline providing the perfect morning backdrop.
The afternoon tea was equally delightful — a beautifully presented array of delicate pastries, finger sandwiches, and premium teas, enjoyed in a serene setting high above the bustling city below. A heartfelt thank you to Nadilla, the server who thoughtfully explained the afternoon tea selections and enhanced the entire experience with her grace and professionalism. Credit is also due to Executive Pastry Chef Holger Deh, whose creations were as exquisite in flavor as they were in presentation.
The Experience – A New Icon of Luxury in Kuala Lumpur
Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is not just another luxury hotel; it’s a new benchmark for urban luxury in Southeast Asia. The level of personalization, attention to detail, and design sophistication is evident throughout the property. Being situated so high above the city gives the experience a sense of stillness and privacy that’s hard to find elsewhere in Kuala Lumpur.
A special note of appreciation to the Guest Experience Manager (whose name I, regrettably, didn’t catch) — thank you for the thoughtful in-room amenities that added a personal touch to my stay.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a truly elevated stay — both literally and figuratively — the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is unparalleled. Whether you’re a local seeking a sky-high staycation or a traveler wanting the finest the city has to offer, this hotel delivers on every front.
The combination of architectural wonder, impeccable service, and luxurious surroundings made this an unforgettable experience. And with its privileged location within Merdeka 118, it’s not just a stay — it’s...
