The food is atrocious and definitely not worth the price. Service was sub-par and definitely not befitting a restaurant with such a reputation. We were sorely disappointed. We had the Chef Special Omakase set. The only dish we enjoyed was the Sushi course. But everything else was badly cooked.
Drinks: I had a 320ml bottle of warm sake. I was surprised I wasn't given a small bucket with hot water to maintain the sake temperature. It got cold quickly and was cold sake for most of my meal. Many japanese restaurants costing a fraction of the price here will do that. So it was a surprise a high end restaurant doesn't know to do that.
First Course: Appetizer. A couple of the items were interesting, notably the shooter with the Uni (Sea Urchin). But none of the items really go with each other and there is no information provided on the order (if any) we should eat it and the flavours clashed. The herring roe was interesting, but slightly bitter. Near the end, I realise there was some lime juice at the bottom of the cup which actually does make the dish more balanced. I just wished I was told or they had served it on a plate where everything can mix better instead of a tiny cup. It feels like a bunch of items thrown together.
Second Course: Sushi. The only dish we like. Interesting little touches such as a slice of jalapeno change the taste profile of the sushi and give it a different depth. I could eat a whole meal of sushi and be happier for it.
Third Course: Cous Cous with seared scallops. Interesting but nothing fantastic.
Fourth Course: Deep fried Fish with a Shiso Butter. Fish was overcooked, not seasoned (hence tasteless) and the skin was not crispy. The butter did not add much to the fish either. Definitely one of the worst dish.
Fifth Course: Wagyu beef. We asked for medium rare and got medium well or well done. The beef is fatty enough to be forgiving, but not being able to cook the meat to doneness is a crime for such a high end restaurant.
Sixth Course: Ramen with miso chicken soup. For an omakase, this seems to be thrown in without much thought, almost like an attempt to just fill you up. It was neither inventive or tasty.
Desert: We had a huge desert, and it was nice, but doesn't seem to fit well into the course. It almost like they had a pastry chef who is dying to show off his / her skills and threw it all in. It was good, no doubt, but doesn't really gel as much in the context of the whole meal and seems to be vying to the main course.
Service: the fact that the food is bad is half of it. The service was equally bad. When we mentioned that the beef is overcooked, the staff just smile and ignore us. They had waiters walking around with trays full of used dishes. We overheard one of the presumably more experienced waiter telling another to stack them up so as to save a trip to the kitchen. It is really unsightly and not befitting such a supposedly high class restaurant.
When my sake was served, no one poured me a cup. I had to pour it myself.
When the sushi course arrive, no one bothered to pour soy sauce for us, or even bothered to mention that the soy sauce is in a small unmarked bottle on the table.
When I was leaving, I was left standing for 5 minutes waiting for someone to give me my umbrellas, instead of it automatically readying it for us at the exit like many other establishments.
It is definitely one of my worst japanese meal ever at any price. Will not return ever again unless significant...
Read moreABSOLUTELY APPALLING & PREDATORY Policy! RUINED Our Family Reunion! STAY Away!
I am writing this review with my blood still boiling. My experience with Nobu Kuala Lumpur today was, without a doubt, the worst customer service experience I have ever had at any so-called "premium" establishment.
We booked a table for 10 people for a long-awaited family reunion dinner. Shortly after booking (less than an hour!), we realized upon checking their menu more carefully that their food is overwhelmingly not suitable for children. As responsible parents and grandparents, we decided it wouldn't be a good fit for our family and immediately called to cancel.
This is where the absolute nightmare began.
We were coldly informed by the staff that their draconian policy is to charge a RM250 PER PERSON cancellation fee – a staggering RM2500 TOTAL – for cancelling a booking that was made barely an hour ago! Let that sink in. They want to charge us the price of a full meal for ten people for absolutely NOTHING. No food was cooked, no table was set, the restaurant was not even busy for our time slot. This is not a cancellation policy; it is outright theft and a predatory scam.
Their only "justification" is that they placed a hold on our credit card at the time of booking. Locking a credit card for a reservation is standard practice to prevent no-shows, but using it to extort thousands of ringgit for a last-minute, good-faith cancellation is UNHEARD OF and utterly disgraceful. I have dined at numerous high-end, Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and NONE have such a ruthless and customer-hostile policy. This is the opposite of "premium service"; it is a trap.
This policy has completely ruined our family's mood and our plans for a special evening. We are now not only stressed about finding a new venue but are also facing this ridiculous financial threat.
Let this be a stern warning to everyone, especially families: DO NOT BOOK HERE UNLESS YOU ARE 1000% CERTAIN. Their terms are designed to punish you for any change of plans, no matter how reasonable. They do not care about their customers, only about extracting as much money as possible.
We will be disputing this fraudulent charge with our bank and if Nobu dares to try and enforce this absurd penalty, we will absolutely take this matter to the Tribunal for Consumer Claims. This is unconscionable and we will not stand for it.
Save your money and your sanity. Go to any of the other fantastic restaurants in KL that actually value their patrons. Nobu does not deserve a single ringgit of...
Read moreI never had a chance to review this place but I'm gonna do it now. This happened back in 2017 when I dined here with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The ambiance, the view, the seating place... it's really comfy.. a bit awkward for me since I've never dined in places like this before. It's quite an experience. What me and my bf agreed is that we choose 1/2 from the menu and 1/2 from the chef's recommendations so we have a total of 9 dishes to enjoy throughout the day. Was really excited. Ok, time for the food verdict!
1- The appetizers were 2 sashimi's. It was a yellow fin and salmon. I personally never tasted SO MUCH flavour from thin slices of fish. Honestly, the chef really has some amazing knife skills if he can cut that thin. I really enjoyed the appetizers.
2- Then came the sushi which is stuffed with avacado, salmon, the other one was yellow fin again and all the sushis are good! flavouring was spot on and the sauce was icing on the cake.
3- We slowly move to more bigger meals, then Don bowl was given.. this dish is quite normal but it tasted pretty good! But not as good as the next dish.
4- The black cod... MY GOD THE TASTE WAS AMAZING! It was so flavourful, tender and juicy. Maybe too strong on the flavour of the fish, hence the stick (I seriously forgot what veggie was that) there to help wash off the flavour.I ate most of it since my bf can see i loved it!
5- The next one was Wagyu beef doused in truffles... I honestly not a big fan on truffles but according to my bf, it tasted amazing. So I let him eat most of it since I ate most of the fish anyways so we're even stevens XD
6- The desserts are pretty cool. The first one was a chocolate sphere that melts when poured hot chocolate on it. It has the crackling candy too so it's pretty fun to eat it XD. But I personally LOVE the second dessert. It was fruity, sweet and juicy! A definite icing on the cake! Delicious! I don't think I can ever find this dessert elsewhere, and even if I did, may not be as good as this place.
I'm not sure if my review is still relevant even after 4 years, but this place deserves a 5* for sure! Try it out for occasions cuz I'll be frank, your wallet will suffer if you're going for the full course meal like I did. But it was worth...
