Now, if you look for an amazing place, this is for you. First, the search. There is a small “Shhhbuuuleee” sign outside a quaintly dilapidated 1960 building (it reminded me of a slightly run-down UK student union building: Posters and murals, and missing floor tiles and all that. You have no idea where to go, so you go up, to enter a huge cavernous bookshop, reminiscent, this time, of an Escher drawing: some books may require 20metre tall ladders, flights of stairs going up and down, seemingly at random, glass floors where you look down at more books and more stairs. All books are displayed with the cover, not the spine, in sight. Keep climbing, and you reach a bar/garden/rooftop. We were the first. We (three of us) opted for the “let us feed you” option. A feast of East Asian dishes followed: from Japan (Waigu beef morsels) to South east fusion dishes. Ten (yes 10) in all. Including two desserts. Brought to us in five rounds, each coming after the predecessor (something that I found not all restaurants do here). Hard to choose what to mention, but the two mains are a must. The beef had the right combination of fat at the perfect temperature, it did not need chewing: squash it with the tongue against you palate to let the flavour ooze out. Firmness in the pair was provided by the fish pan fried (or was it baked?) in a very subtle turmeric coating. First but not least, were beans in a deliciously thick ink squid sauce. Like a Mozart duet, the fishy and the beany flavours escalated to delightful highs, neither losing its distinctiveness. Our very attentive server kept coming to roll in and out the rain cover above our head, allowing us to see the fast changing weather pattern, and the colours of the sunset on the buildings. Do try it: you...
Read moreFound a really cool place on the rooftop off REX KL with live DJ.
First impression was great. They have nice rustic set up and outdoor sort of bar area with red stools.
So we thought it would be nice to grab a drink and go home.
Pros
Ambience is nice. Breezy and very chill food is actually nice but the portion is tiny tiny tiny We have tried Food tartare and octopus and they are both yummy
Cons
Service is HORRIBLE!! The fat host was being very condescending. We were asking if they have red wine (cause Puro downstairs were out) and he was like “of course we have” in a not funny way. Red flag 1. ok nevermind. We went in. We were already seated at the outdoor bar area and a lady with yellowish hair came to ask us to move because they expected more customers. So we’re happy to move not an issue. 30 mins in those seats we were moved from still empty…. Why girl why? then we’re trying to order something, my boyfriend was hungry and I only wanted drinks . So he ordered fish tartare and I ordered sake. The same nice lady told us cannot. In order to sit on their red stool u gotta order 2 drinks if there are 2 ppl look at the rm 30 something food portion Lolol it’s...
Read moreGorgeous view and nice presentation of their apperitifs. However, anticipate an unfriendly and aggressive waiter with dusty tables.
At the entrance, I have informed that we're here for drinks only. Our idea of having drinks is to chill and relax without parking more than one type of alcoholic drinks on our table. His colleague arrived at our table without a smiling face and asked do we want to have food. I said no. Then, he asked do we want to order another type of drink. I told him leave the menu and we'll order another after we're done drinking.
After he poured the Yuzu apperitif, he asked again, "Do you want to order another drink?" At this moment, my husband and I dislike his aggressive behaviour.
When I ordered the second alcohol, he recommended we drink the Northern Italian red wine which is better than the Spanish red wine. It was the crappiest wine we've ever drank! It was either extremely low quality or have not been kept in the fridge. Go for their aperitifs, sake and shochu. You're wasting your money if you buy their wines.
The restaurant has three tables of customers only but they're losing a table of returning customers. I rather go to the poolside bar of hotels...
