Came here with a group of gals to catch-up over brunch. Saw on both Google reviews and on-site that many ordered their omurice and curry don't so I decided on their Chicken Katsu Curry Don. Friends ordered their Omurice, Thai Laksa Pasta and Tom Yum Mentaiko Squid Ink pasta.
For drinks I had their Matcha Strawberry and their Tie Guan Yin Sour Plum and both were amazing 😍😍. Blend of earthy matcha (not bitter), sweet strawberry and creamy milk was perfect and balanced. Would totally order a second if not of the price (but worth it!). So for the second drink I tried the TGY Sour Plum (cos recommended by friend). Again, this did not disappoint and for someone who is used to the usual traditional chinese pot of TGY and rather sceptical about sweetened Chinese tea, this exceeded my expectations. The drink was also perfectly blended, not overly sweet at all. The tea is also not too overpowering and had the right amount of sourness from the sour plum. Super refreshing!
As for my curry don, felt that it was just mediocre and nothing extraordinary. The onsen egg was great, perfectly done with a creamy, runny yolk (which I prefer). However, I felt that the katsu was on the drier side and would prefer it to be slightly juicier. Overall, it was alright but nothing unique.
Tried a couple of spoons from the pasta dishes and they were much better! The sauces (tom yum and laksa) were flavourful and creamy and from the looks on the plates, they don't stinge on the ingredients which is great! Portions look just right for the pasta too.
Would definitely return, esp for the drinks and perhaps to try out...
Read moreWent to eat here on 21/03 and ordered their Smoked Duck Carbonara and their Houjicha Latte (with oat milk). Venue-wise, the place is great -- spacious and aesthetically pleasing. However, I found the food to be a little underwhelming, though I can only speak for their Smoked Duck Carbonara. The cream was a little too thin and runny for my liking and I thought it lacked flavour, though the smoked duck itself was alright.
A friend of mine ordered their Tomyum Mentaiko Squid Ink Pasta, though she changed her order to use just regular pasta noodles instead of the squid ink one. I tried a little bit of hers, and I thought it was better than the carbonara, but there was still room for improvement.
I initially wanted to order a Matcha Latte, and while it is available on their physical menu, it was nowhere to be found on their digital menu (where you place your orders). Upon bringing it up to their staff, they acted confused (as if the cafe never served matcha???) before ultimately telling me that they ran out of it after I explicitly asked if it was 'finished'. While that was a little weird, I guess it isn't something I would (overly) criticise the staff over.
A lot of this restaurant's early reviews said the food was good (and.. flavourful??), so I did have high expectations for it when I came here. I don't know if I came on a bad day/week, but you can definitely find better pasta in the RM30 range elsewhere in Bangsar. However, the Houjicha Latte was good, so this place is maybe good if you just want to grab some drinks and a few light snacks...
Read moreOverall: Food was below average (had the omurice with curry), but service was great and the place is spacious and comfortable.
Price point of food and drinks are similar to other Bangsar joints. (RM25-38 for food items, RM14-18 for drinks)
Staff are friendly, attentive and accommodating. You order by scanning the QR and it's easy to use — waiters/waitresses are quite helpful if you face any issues.
Omurice was disappointing — omelette was under seasoned despite the promising presentation, and the curry was watery. Tempura served with the dish was good — crunchy with flavour. It's a shame because otherwise it's good value, very filling with good protein to rice and sauce ratio.
Coffee is OK, standard Bangsar fare but with the strong competition in the area you may have better options. Specialty tea drinks look good however.
The place is really very spacious having been renovated from a warehouse. To note is how family-friendly the place is, with multiple baby chairs and some food that's quite kid-friendly.
The place has a lot of potential, and the staff asked for feedback on food and drinks when I was paying, which is a good sign. Hope the team can improve on the menu items.
Don't think it's fair for people to rate any F&B place low for the parking availability — it's Bangsar. Street parking is limited but you can park just next door at Menara Mutiara's visitor's car park (level 6) for only RM2 an hour. If you have the budget to eat a RM40+/pax meal in Bangsar, just park there instead of complaining about the lack of...
