A Costly Disappointment

I visited this café based on glowing reviews, and at first, it lived up to the hype—warm staff, cozy ambiance, great coffee and pastries. We started with iced cappuccino, peanut butter latte, a babycino for my son, and a selection of pastries (peach danish, pain au chocolat, and banana walnut cake). Everything was lovely and set our expectations sky-high.

However, the experience quickly took a turn when we decided to stay for lunch. What started off promising ended with frustration and regret.

Key Complaints:

• Misleading Menu Naming: Ordered a “cabbage pancake” expecting the Korean-style jeon, but was served okonomiyaki rice bowl with cabbage as the toppings instead. The name on the menu wasn’t clear, and the waiter didn’t explain it properly despite my initial confusion.

• Poor Ingredient Transparency: Menu didn’t list ingredients or give a description, which led to a completely different dish than expected—especially problematic in a multicultural setting like Malaysia where not everyone is familiar with Korean terms.

• Slow service: Waited over 35 minutes for our food with no updates, only acted on after we followed up.

• Low quality ingredients for premium price: Ordered seafood aglio olio for RM36+ and was served a small portion with mini frozen shrimp. I’m not expecting to be served tiger prawns but I wasn’t served regular prawns either. They served MINI FROZEN SHRIMP. The kind you don’t even cook at home. The audacity — completely UNACCEPTABLE at that price point.

• Value doesn’t match the price: Spent over RM150 on a meal that left us disappointed—one swapped dish was packed to-go because we were too frustrated to stay, and the “cabbage pancake” was left untouched.

The staff remained kind throughout, and I appreciated how she handled my complaint—but sadly, kindness can’t make up for the lack of value and quality. I won’t be returning, but I do hope they take this as constructive feedback and improve...

When I last visited Solace on 11th Nov 2023, we were welcomed by two friendly male staff, one of which is my friend. Throughout the visit, there were 4 of us and we were ordering, my friend was taking our orders and I noticed a skinny woman behind the counter giving us dirty looks.

I thought she looked mad so I asked my friend if we came at a wrong time. My friend assured me it is his lunch break and he was able to eat with us at the table after he took our orders. As we chatted, I noticed the woman again glancing at us every time we laughed or talked. She didn't say hi or anything, just stared at our table or our direction. I felt weird but we tried to ignore her. We stayed until the end of my friend's lunch break so he could continue his work.

We were leaving and I went to pay for my bill, but as I waited there. The same woman now standing behind the counter ignored me until my friend had to come to the counter from the back where they made drinks, to ring me up. Our table thought she had a bad day but shouldn't stare at people with such sour face at customers.

The pasta and open sandwich was greatly recommended by my friend, 9/10. Abit expensive but once...

BEST BRUNCH IN KL!!! ☕️

WOW!! We happened to stumble across this place on google maps while looking for somewhere to get a nice brunch and coffee. Solace was just the ticket!

I can’t recommend this place enough. From the moment we walked in, ALL of the staff welcomed us with a friendly hello and smile. The most welcomed I’ve ever felt being seated in a cafe, great experience from the get go. Our server was nothing but amazing, seating us with a smile and generally being very helpful explaining dishes / drinks to us and accommodating our requests. He even pulled up an extra chair to put my bag on so it wasn’t on the floor - just the small little details in service were very impressive!

I ordered a double espresso which was smooth and very good coffee. My partner ordered ‘Adventure Thyme’ which he said was 10/10 too. For breakfast we ordered ‘The Creamy Mushroom’ & ‘Good Morning Mon Cherie’. All I can say is … WOW! The food was brought out promptly and again with a smile. Both dishes were outstanding, one of the best breakfasts I have EVER had!!!! A bold but surely deserving statement.
