Tanba Japanese BBQ & Hotpot - Mid Valley Megamall — Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur

I’ve visited Tanba about five times now, and it’s become one of my go-to spots for Japanese BBQ and hotpot. The food is consistently excellent — fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. Whether it’s the meat, seafood, or side dishes, everything is enjoyable and satisfying.

The ambiance is another major plus. The restaurant has a cozy, chill atmosphere that makes it perfect for relaxing meals with friends or family. The overall vibe is warm and inviting. On top of that, the staff are always helpful and attentive, which adds to the great experience.

However, one thing that stands out — in a less positive way — is the attitude of the manager or supervisor. In all five of my visits, not once did I see her smile. She often comes across as unfriendly and a bit arrogant, which feels out of place compared to the rest of the team’s great service. It doesn’t ruin the experience, but it’s noticeable.

My first visit on 16 March 2025 with my friend, Josie, ( under her reservation) left a very positive impression. We ordered the basic buffet and were particularly impressed by the quality of the Wagyu beef—it was tender, flavourful, and melted in the mouth. That experience led me to return recently to celebrate with my parents, with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience this time on 10 May 2025 (under my reservation) was very disappointing. The Wagyu beef served was tough and filled with tendon, which made it difficult to enjoy. I raised the issue with the staff, who were kind enough to replace the beef. However, of the eight replacement slices, only four were tender while the rest were still quite tough.

As a paying customer returning based on a previously excellent experience, I found this inconsistency in quality to be unacceptable, especially considering the premium nature of the item.

I have texted Tanba via Instagram , I was told to wait and they will come back to me soonest possible. But one month passed and there was no reply from Tanba. A total...

Five stars! Highly recommended! This restaurant exceeded my expectations in every way—ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food. The atmosphere is elegant and comfortable, making it perfect for gatherings or a cozy dinner. The staff is warm, attentive, and highly professional, ensuring a fantastic dining experience.

The food was absolutely outstanding! The A5 Wagyu was incredibly tender and flavorful, with perfect marbling that melted in my mouth. The Herbal Black Chicken Soup was rich and nourishing, with a deep, aromatic broth that was both comforting and delicious. Every bite was a delight!
