We stumbled upon Ushiraku Modern Yakiniku through a Google search for Wagyu beef, drawn in by the glowing reviews and tempting photos. The restaurant itself is rather small and unassuming, with a simple aesthetic. It was relatively quiet when we arrived, which initially gave us pause.
The Food:
We opted for their top Wagyu cut, the Chateaubriand, alongside Wagyu Gyoza, fried rice, and foie gras. The foie gras was exquisitely prepared, boasting a perfectly seared crust without being overly liquid inside. The combination of berries and chocolate crumble offered a sophisticated and interesting flavor profile. The Gyoza was good, but not mind-blowing; it lacked a bit of juiciness within. The fried rice was flavorful but slightly undersalted for my taste, and the Wagyu pieces were excessively fatty, bordering on being more like fat trimmings than prime cuts. Nevertheless, it remained delicious. The true star of our meal was the Chateaubriand steak, though it did require a bit of patience to arrive. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, requiring no chewing, and possessed a rich, meaty flavor without being overly greasy. It was cooked to perfection. I wholeheartedly recommend trying it.
Service:
The service was somewhat underwhelming, primarily limited to taking orders and clearing plates. A call button for the server was available, but we didn't end up using it. However, the server was helpful in guiding us towards the best steak option and displayed a friendly demeanor.
Conclusion:
Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience. While the service and ambiance were unremarkable, the food was of exceptional quality. The steak, in particular,...

Famous for its premium halal-certified Japanese A5 Kuroge wagyu beef, the overall quality is good, meat is fresh, and.. more importantly.. the price is reasonable. We started off with the Yakiniku with the vegetable set (Yaki Yasai) (3.5 🌟) with some Hamaguri Miso Soup (4 🌟) which was really good. We did also try the Kimchi Tofu Soup (2 🌟) which was very sour and didn't really like it. The Garlic Fried Rice (4 🌟) was really nice and especially when paired with half Yakiniku cooked Tiger Prawns (4.5 🌟) and some Yasai. The Wagyu Don (3.5 🌟) didn't impress as we found the meat a bit too rough.. but generally was decent. We also tried the Harima oysters (3.5 🌟) which was fresh.. But tasted ok only.
One comment is that the place is small.. and as such.. as a yakiniku shop, it will be very smoky. Lucky each table is installed with an exhaust fan 👍. We were also lucky as there wasn't many customers when we dined in. In any case, the staff were friendly, attentive and efficient... pretty impressive customer service (average less than 10secs after ringing the call button). As dessert we had the Matcha Ice Cream (4 🌟) which was refreshingly good.

Read moreSuperb food, service and atmosphere! Came here to celebrate a birthday and we were seated in the booth area where there was star inspired lights overhead.
From the reservation making to the end of the meal, everything was seamless. Quick replies and very accommodating. They prepared a complimentary dessert and sang the birthday song too which we really appreciated!
Food was amazinggg!! Wagyu was perfectly buttery and tender, you don’t even need sauces because the beef has a beautiful flavour profile. I recommend getting the egg yolk to dip! Chuck roll eye was the bomb, followed by the Ribeye Blade😮💨 The thin sliced tongue is slightly chewy but without any bad tastes. For sharing, please get the cold udon too! Simply amazing. The oyster was really plump and fresh too! 600g was enough to share for 4 pax.
Gonna come back here when we’re back in KL for sure 😍 Our thanks to the team for our first experience here...
