Ban Kheng Cafe is a charming establishment that has transformed from an old shop into a quaint café, with its entrance at the back facing the serene river instead of the bustling main road. This unique feature adds to the cafe's appeal, as it offers a quieter and more peaceful setting away from the city's hustle and bustle.

One of the highlights of Ban Kheng Cafe is its delightful croissants. Served in bite-sized portions, these croissants are a perfect treat for those looking for a quick snack or a light breakfast. The croissants are baked to perfection, with a golden, flaky exterior and a soft, buttery interior. Each bite is a delightful combination of textures and flavors, leaving you craving for more.

While the food at Ban Kheng Cafe is considered average, it comes with a slightly higher price tag. However, what the dishes lack in exceptional taste, they make up for in generous portions. The cafe believes in providing value for money, ensuring that customers leave satisfied and well-fed. So, if you're looking for a place to enjoy a hearty meal, Ban Kheng Cafe has got you covered.

What sets Ban Kheng Cafe apart is its pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. The ambiance is cozy, creating a chillaxing environment where you can unwind and enjoy your meal in peace. The interior is tastefully decorated, with comfortable seating arrangements and soft lighting, adding to the overall charm of the place. Whether you're visiting alone or with friends, the welcoming vibe of the cafe makes it a great spot to spend some quality time.

In conclusion, Ban Kheng Cafe is a hidden gem nestled by the river. While the food may be considered average and slightly pricey, the generous portions and the delightful croissants make up for it. The charming atmosphere and the serene location make this cafe an ideal place to relax and escape the hustle of everyday life. I will definitely be returning to Ban Kheng Cafe for...

A Serene Sunday at Ban Kheng Café Sunday, 28 July 2024

On this beautiful Sunday, our nephew-in-law kindly fetched his spouse, his sister-in-law, my wife, and me to Jonker Walk, Melaka, to visit our nephew's Sunday Pop-Up stall nestled in the back lane of a friend's coffee bar. On our way, we made a delightful pitstop at a popular café by the Melaka River: Ban Kheng.

The café was bustling with life, a testament to its popularity. The menu was both comprehensive and attractive, promising a variety of flavours to suit every palate. We were fortunate enough to find a table near the riverbank, offering a splendid view of the Melaka River, with occasional sightings of the charming river cruises gliding by.

We ordered a big breakfast set and a sourdough sandwich breakfast set to share. The big breakfast set was a vibrant feast for the eyes and the palate, featuring golden scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, juicy sausages, and sautéed mushrooms, all complemented by a medley of fresh, colorful vegetables. The sourdough sandwich breakfast set was equally delightful, with its thick, crusty bread encasing layers of creamy avocado, tangy tomatoes, and perfectly poached eggs, all drizzled with a zesty hollandaise sauce.

To accompany our meal, I chose a hot tea with lemon and lime. The tea was a warm embrace, with the citrusy notes of lemon and lime adding a refreshing twist to each sip. The café's location provided a great view of the Kampung Jawa Bridge, and the area was pleasantly cool, thanks to the fresh breeze wafting from the river.

As we enjoyed our quick bites and leisurely Sunday gathering, we felt a sense of peace and contentment. The combination of good food, delightful company, and a picturesque setting made for a truly memorable experience. With our hearts and stomachs full, we eagerly anticipated our next adventure at the Sunday...

A slice of Malacca to chill in; contemporary but also eclectically decorated with vintage furnishing. Though set just by the touristy river with crowded Jonker Walk nearby, it feels tucked away and is spacious.

Breads and soups are made in house (whole loaves available for sale), and grass-fed butter could be purchased. Had broccoli soup, big breakfast, sourdough bread. After being impressed, my friend and I couldn't resist trying their mushroom soup & foccasia bread. Very, very well made! Aromatic, has a clean, straightforward and powerful taste. Clearly made with thought, effort and much kitchen experience. Thumbs up to their recipes! And I don't know where they sourced their eggs but the chickens must have been happy with life to produce eggs of such excellent flavour.

And the coffee (I had mocha)... this is how coffee in cafe should taste like (minimal standard!) Deep and full-bodied.

No wonder I lost track of time when I was here. This is a family-run cafe. And everyone from grandma, parents to teenagers helped serve the customers. Can feel their warm familial culture in the way they welcome us into their cafe...
