Would like to applaud for the intricate information and details displayed in the museum, however, the whole experience felt like a money-making scheme instead of a productive history lesson. The Chinese male staff at the counter was rude and did not inform us that the museum was closing in half an hour and proceeded to sell us tickets and told us to go watch the documentary in their cinema area. We had to find out ourselves from their foreign workers that the museum was closing at 6pm which gives us 30-40 minutes to explore the museum. We were appalled and couldn’t believe it when the same Chinese male staff told us that the documentary room was closed and I said I thought you told us to watch the video and he instead of taking accountability for his actions, asked us to visit the other parts of the museum whilst withholding the information that the museum closes at 6pm.
So okay fine, we proceeded to check out the museum but we could only do it super quickly, while the Bangla worker was rushing us to move by verbally asking us to do so and switching off the lights in whichever section we just passed when we were trying to read and check out those items, and did not have enough time at all to read and marvel at the displays at the museum which was a huge bummer for us as history lovers, also we paid for RM20/2 pax to know more about Cheng Ho so it was a huge loss for us in general.
We felt super angry and cheated because he sold us tickets when he clearly knows we did not have enough time to explore because he was money-minded. We then confronted the Chinese male staff for his behaviour and instead of an apology, he did not take accountability again and denied that he sold us or anyone tickets by 5:30pm. We couldn’t believe his behaviour and words and told him he was wrong for his actions and he still did not take any accountability at all. But the only good thing he did was offering to let us come back tomororw to watch the documentary and explore the museum again though he was still rude. We didnt feel pleased by his response cuz he still did not applogise and take accountability for his actions.
Do expect rude and cincai behaviour when you visit the museum.
Overall, we give an A+ for the museum and F for their...
Read moreThe museum itself is quite good to deserve 4 stars. However I deduct 2 stars for the arrogant and unfriendly front counter auntie and deduct 1 star for putting a bangla at front counter to tell what guests need to do.
When we enter the museum, we asked the auntie what do guests expect from there. She was like very unwilling to talk, even we change our language from English to Mandarin.
Later, we asked the ticket price, she first want to charge us foreigner rates as we are not aware of local rates. By talking to us, she knew we are locals and yet still put forward foreigner rates. Then we show our adults IC, she was like don't believe we have genuine blue IC, and then insist want to see our 2 kids IC too... Come on auntie, I guess nobody is interested to cheat the RM5 savings for kids ticket. You have just seen 2 adults Malaysian IC, and are you suspect our kids are foreigners... use your brain lah.
Then we tour the museum ourselves. It was quite good actually, and definitely beyond our expectations.
We thought let's buy something there as our way to show appreciation and contribution for the hardwork they put up the display. We almost left empty handed when encounter the same auntie again. At this juncture, another lady staff show up and she is quite friendly. She explained the importance for kids to know the history which is exactly the purpose we visited this museum.
Also, pls give some training to the male bangla worker. He saw us coming down from stair, and yet he do the mopping on the hallway. We have no choice but to step on the wet slippery floor. This create unnecessary risk for guests, and of course the floor become dirty again... it's so stupid not letting us go thru first before mopping, as there was no guests behind us.
I feel ashamed to give 1 star for this decent museum, but thinking of that stupid auntie and the bossy bangla... yes,...
Read moreLet’s start with the positive. It is extremely informative and you get to learn how amazing Cheng Ho was. But it is not very Tourist friendly especially if you don’t speak mandarin. They play a video documentary but only in mandarin no English subtitles or anything. Other than the video everything else had English explanation. Reception staffs were very aggressive. My girlfriend did not bring her wallet and they were so doubtful of her nationality and even attempted to speak to her in Malay to test her which I found ridiculous and pathetic. There is another Cheng Ho museum in the stadhuys which is cheaper than this museum. Some of the exhibition are not working too such as the ship display at the entrance which i expect to be working especially for the ticket price that we paid for. Although it’s informative, the display are slightly messy with some of the written description being completely obstructed by...
