New Good World Restaurant, Melaka: Decent Choice for a Casual Meal

If you're looking for a no-frills Chinese restaurant in Melaka with a mix of seafood, stir-fries, and classic comfort dishes, New Good World Restaurant is a reasonable choice. It’s the kind of place that caters to both families and large gatherings, offering a variety of familiar favourites.

The Food: Hits and Misses

The menu is extensive, covering everything from sweet and sour pork to seafood tofu claypot. Some dishes shine—the stir-fried vegetables are fresh and well-seasoned, and the butter prawns have a nice balance of crispiness and savoury-sweet flavour. However, a few items can be a little underwhelming, either slightly overcooked or lacking the depth of flavour you’d expect from a top-tier Chinese restaurant.

Service and Ambience

Service is efficient but not particularly warm—you get what you need, but don’t expect much beyond that. The restaurant itself has a functional, old-school charm, though it can feel a bit noisy during peak hours.

Overall Verdict

New Good World Restaurant is a decent option if you’re after a straightforward, family-style Chinese meal in Melaka. While it may not be the most memorable dining experience, it gets the job done, especially for those who appreciate variety and large portions at reasonable prices. Would I rush back? Probably not. But if you’re in the area and need a reliable spot for a simple meal, it’s worth...

Visited the restaurant for dinner with two family members. An elderly waitress took our order for Shark fin soup, Yam ring, Qing Long vegetable, and a "small" plate of fried mee sua. The meal began with the shark fin soup being served by the same lady, but we were shocked to find a long strand of hair in it. We informed her, and she took it back to the kitchen. About five minutes later, she returned with the same soup, which was unfortunately no longer warm. Anyone can simply guess whether it has been replaced or not?

Later, when the rest of the dishes were served, we noticed another table receiving a noticeably smaller portion of mee sua. Upon questioning the waitress, she told us that since we had three people, she took the liberty of upgrading us to a medium portion. We clarified that we had specifically ordered a small, to which she replied that we should have stated it was for one person. We raised our concern to the lady boss, who acknowledged that the staff should have informed us before making that decision.

This isn’t about the price difference—it's about transparency and integrity in service.

The food itself was average. Regrettably, we do not...

Last week we had dinner here.from Ipoh...this is our first time ...... looking for nice and tasty dinner meal ...after look review about this restaurant we believe it's nice food...but unfortunately very disappointed with the kam heong chicken meal..which is not the real kam heong meal.....they stir it with curry powder and no any soya sauce added...very dry and can taste the raw curry powder smell.we ask them to add in soya sauce and make it wet...but later on its looks like been pour with water ..the taste soo bad..no salt taste.. finally my husband rejected the meals... kangkung belacan out of taste...very watery and less taste of the paste ... regret to come here..please don't assume that non Chinese customer not familiar with Chinese real recipes....this is our first and last to this...

Loved both the service and the food. I was only with my 6 year old and they did the portions of of the food perfectly. My son loved every dish too even though he's not the best of eaters! We ordered sweet and sour fish, 青龙菜,oyster noodles and a soup. Sounds like a lot right but perfectly portioned and we finished all. 2022 update: the staff are very good with portions and will caution you. I was even asked when paying whether we really ate all that food as we ordered 7 dishes for 2 adults and 2 kids. Oops... We wanted to try more. Good value, good solid cooking. Although we were somewhat disappointed with the yang Chow Fried rice it didn't deter from the rest of the dishes.

Excellent and filling meal at this restaurant. I ordered the Marmite chicken, juicy, nicely fried with a combination of sweet, savory, and slightly tangy with a hint of bitterness from the Marmite. The Pork ribs was served in a yam ring, fried and crispy on the outside but fluffy and comforting inside. The ribs had a beautiful sweet and sour element that wasn't overpowering. Service was friendly and the family team happy to chat. Loved the experience, will be back for the curry pie!
