Ban Lee Siang@Malacca is famous for satay celup, and as a local who has been visiting since young, the taste has remained the same over the years. It’s a special place for gathering with old friends, especially during Chinese New Year, bringing back nostalgic memories. One noticeable change is that they now ask whether you prefer a new satay pot or to keep the existing one. For those who opt for the existing pot, the sauce tastes thicker and richer, just like in the old days when we never changed the pot. For hygiene purposes, they now remind customers to scoop out the sauce instead of dipping food back in, which is an improvement I appreciate. As long as the food is properly cooked, it’s safe to eat. Before adding fresh/raw meat, it’s best to empty the pot or wait for it to heat up again to ensure the meat is fully cooked. These small improvements help maintain food safety while preserving the authentic satay celup experience! 2 🌟 - Below Average: Needs improvement in multiple areas, not meeting expectations. 3 🌟 - Standard, Average: Meets basic expectations, nothing exceptional but acceptable. 4 🌟 - Standard, Above Average: Exceeds expectations slightly, better than the norm. 5 🌟 - Special & Unique: Outstanding experience, highly memorable and exceptional.

Update Fri 8 Dec 2023 We came here for a Satay Celuop feast with our nephew and grandnephew Sat 18 Nov 2023 We brought our grandnephew with his Vietnamese aunty and Filipino mate for a satay celup feast. Sat 3 Jun 2023 Brought our grandnephew here again for the famous satay celup feast. We too taxi here. The place is already packed by 3 pm. Mon 8 Dec 2022. We brought our grand nephew again after he returned from his holidays in Taiwan. 5 Sep 2022. We brought our grandnephew again after he came back from Singapore during the week-long school holidays. We took a Grab taxi here and arrived a 3 p.m. The placates were nearly packed but we managed one of the last two tables at the back of the shop. The service is tip top but prices have gone up but are still affordable. We brought our grandnephew whose cravings for satay celup are almost weekly! We went early before 3:30 p.m. to beat the crowd. Parking was relatively easy then. We picked our selections of skewed food and vegetables and cooked them in the boiling peanut and spice-rich satay sauce. We would recommend the freshly peeled blood cockles which were cooked within seconds and the tau fu rolls which took up a good measure of the hot sauce for dancing in your mouth.

FOOD POISONING COMPLAINT BAN LEE SIANG Satay Celup I am writing to formally lodge a grave complaint regarding a severe food poisoning incident that occurred after my family and I dined at your restaurant, 万里香 satay celup. We had order a new pot with new sauce, not the sharing with others people , A group of seven individuals, including a 4-year-old child, consumed food at your establishment, every single member of our group experienced violent symptoms of food poisoning, which included: Nonstop diarrhea – Every member of our group had diarrhea at least 8 to 10 times. Vomiting Severe abdominal pain The severity of these symptoms forced all of us to seek immediate medical attention, and we were all admitted to the Accident & Emergency (A&E) department for urgent treatment. The impact on our health was extreme, particularly for the young child, who was also affected. It is deeply concerning that all seven individuals in our family, including the child, were impacted in the exact same manner following the meal at your restaurant. The sheer intensity of the symptoms strongly indicates food contamination or gross negligence in food preparation, handling, or hygiene at your establishment. This incident is not only an enormous health risk but has caused significant physical distress, emotional trauma, and inconvenience to our entire family. Given the severity of the situation, we demand the following immediate actions: 1. Medical Compensation: Due to the serious nature of this food poisoning incident, I demand appropriate compensation for the medical expenses and any other costs related to the treatment required for all affected family members. 2. Official Response: I expect a formal and detailed response outlining the actions your restaurant will take to address this matter and prevent future occurrences. The lack of immediate action in response to food safety concerns is unacceptable. Please be aware that this matter is of the utmost seriousness, and I urge you to treat it with the highest level of urgency. Should I not receive a satisfactory response within a reasonable timeframe, I will be compelled to escalate this matter to the relevant health authorities and consumer protection bodies for further investigation and action. I expect your prompt attention and response to this extremely serious complaint.

Decent food with variety, but feels like I'm paying premium price for a regular lok lok other than the satay sauce. AND the hygiene is absolutely and shockingly atrocious or even abominable. Look at the photo attached, this is what you would be eating from if you're not paying extra RM30 for them to change it to a pot of clean satay sauce. You will be eating leftover satay sauce from previous customers. Is clean food too much to ask for? Why do I have to pay extra for something I deserve at a bare minimum? Why is serving leftovers a regular practice? And RM30 is a lot to pay for satay sauce. On top of it, if you want to take the sauce that you paid for back home, be prepared to pay another RM2 for a plastic container. Other than that, you have to pay RM5 for adding more satay sauce to the pot for the second time. Nothing wrong about it but not something I find very reasonable. There's no escaping it unless you can finish cooking everything before the sauce dipped to a level too low for you to be able to cook your food. Only here for the experience and I see nothing to rave about. I will not be returning in the future as I am truly shocked by what's practiced here. But of course, if you are okay with their hygiene level, go ahead, though I see nothing so good that would be worth getting served with leftovers.

JAN 2025 There are two BAN LEE SIANG shops side by side. Clearly there has been BIG QUARREL resulting in the split up. I went to the original BLS which has a brown signboard. I chose to have the first time gravy and paid extra. Post pandemic, I would rather be safe rather than sorry. If you’re dating a fresh batch, you need for the gravy to boil for at least 15-30 mins before it thickens. If you have it too early, the gravy tastes very diluted. I over ate as usual. Love BLS’ satay crlup. 2024 And earlier I grew up in Melaka and this is my favourite satay celup although capitol satay celup is rated higher than BLS. The sauce is a bit spicy which is how I like it. I now live in KL and I never fail to drop by if I’m in Melaka. I’m used to it but some people might find it unhygienic to share the same pot of sauce with everyone else. Post covid, the restaurant allows you to order your own fresh pot of sauce which is more hygienic. It costs RM30 for a small pot. You can even tar pau the leftover sauce which is what I did for Part 2 back in KL.

If you do drop by Melaka and you're looking for the famous satay celup, here's the place you should come. Ever since the closure of Capitol Satay, this establishment has grown popular. It's non halal and the staff here will explain to you about the pot of the satay sauce as you get options of whether to share the satay sauce used by other patrons previously (I would not recommend it due to hygienic purposes) or get a new fresh pot of satay sauce made just for you (RM30 extra and you can take the satay sauce away once you're done). The skewers are at a fixed price of RM1.30 (there's a long skewer as well for RM1.60). There is a vast variety of skewers available in the fridges inside the shop. Grab a tray and choose your skewers. It opens at about 3pm, but to avoid the crowd.. you need to be here before 6pm. The ingredients are fresh, seafood especially. I would say the pricing has increased, but it's just the operating cost these days. Else where it is expensive as well. Will definitely recommend trying out this place.
