This is the worst horrible and cutthroat restaurant I have ever been to.
Many Indian restaurants are a rip off but at least the food was nice to a certain extent.
This Colombo Cafe was just plain horrid and a rip-off.
The briyani was only half the claypot, The rice was like beras hancur that is usually cooked and given to animals to eat. The chicken was so dry and tasteless that even stray dogs wouldn't go near unless they have been starving for days. The condiments came in mini utensils. The briyani was RM 35 for chicken.
I could have gone to a nice Arab, Malay, Pakistani or Indian restaurant for their native briyani and not pay more than RM 20 for it that is bigger, moist and flavourful and gotten a bigger plate or bowl for their gravy.
For a big restaurant that invested in big expensive decors, you couldn't afford proper utensils?
The bru coffee came in a tiny silver cup which normally is given free when you buy a certain brand's incense cup.
Like seriously are you that poor in business that you give customers in a tiny silver cup and charge RM14 for it? Had it been the Latte, it would have come in a glass at the same price. Is Bru coffee that expensive in Sri Lanka??? Just go to Mydin, you can buy it cheap.
Everything was expensive. There is no point showing how to cut open bread on top of the Briyani. This is not a Salt Bae action. You look dumb cutting the top as if it was anything special when the entire Briyani was so little dry and disgusting. Just because you gave half the pot so you also gave tiny utensils with like a table spoon of curry to smear the rice?
Really. This restaurant is highly NOT recommended at all. The prices are mercilessly exorbitant and yucky.
We had to go to another restaurant to have a proper meal because the food was so little and paying almost RM200 only got you cussed and cursed. At least if the food was nice in those tiny utensils used, it would have been a consolation.
I will write to KPDNHEP to see if they can pay a visit to these swindlers. Too many foreign investors are ripping off locals these days.
Please don't read their fake reviews on their social media sites and waste your money on this junk yard and garbage...
Read moreWe ordered a set meal for 4 pax which came with a surf and turf platter, rice and a dessert. Some of the dishes in the platter were really good i.e. the beef, prawns, mutton and a chicken cooked with chutney. The fried chicken was however very dry hence was a let down. The rice was alright but the accompanying sauces were really good. There was a chili sauce which had some condiments within that tasted really good while the beef sauces was equally as appetizing. The dessert was alright.
Atmosphere was nice. However, a tad disappointed by a bit of misrepresentation by the waitress and the menu. The set looks kinda large from the menu and waitress assured that it will be adequate for 4. But my entourage and myself (who are small eaters) found the portion to be really small. Everything in the platter had 2 pieces (e.g. there were 2 prawns, 2 beef chunks, 2 mutton ribs etc) which seem to indicate that the set was actually for 2 rather than 4. Rice portion was also for 2 pax. The last straw was only 1 dessert was served in the set rather than 2x. This was different from the menu hence felt that the waitress shld have been more transparent. While pricing is a bit on the premium side, the sad thing was the misrepresentation by the menu as well as the waitress. No drinks option was available as well (despite menu stating add RM12 for 2 drinks) and was only informed after we made the order of the set. We were urged to order the ala carte drinks which we felt again misrepresented. Looking at the photos shared by others who have ordered the surf and turf platter, it is indeed a much smaller portion.
Restaurant management should really take a serious look into this. As mentioned, best to be transparent and let the customers choose. If we had known, we would have opted for the ala carte rather than the set meal. Not wanting to order anything else, we helped ourselves to what we had ordered and proceeded to another restaurant later on to fill up...
Read moreWe had:
Tempered yellow rice (RM10) One order is generously portioned, perfect for sharing between two people.
Colonial Beef Ribs (RM36) The colonial beef ribs stole the show. Tender, succulent, and bursting with flavors, these beef ribs were the highlight of my meal.
Kochchi Chicken Kebabs (RM38) The kochchi chicken delivered a taste reminiscent of tandoori cuisine. The chicken had a satisfying level of heat and was well-marinated, resulting in a flavorful and enjoyable dish.
Gotukola Coconut Salad (RM15) The coconut salad was a refreshing addition to the meal.
Sweet Appam (RM8) Although the sweet appam had a small portion size, it certainly packed a punch in terms of taste. Priced at RM8, it may seem a bit steep for the portion.
Iced Bru Coffee Tarik (RM14) & Masala Chai (RM12) Decent.
Sri Lankan Spiced Chicken (RM18) The Sri Lankan spiced chicken at Cafe Colombo can be described as average. While it was flavorful and had some interesting spices, it didn't quite reach the same level of excellence as the standout dishes on the menu.
Additionally, I must mention that the service at Cafe Colombo was top-notch. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They provided excellent recommendations, answered any questions we had, and ensured that we had a pleasant and comfortable dining experience. The prompt and efficient service added to the overall enjoyment of the meal, making our visit to Cafe Colombo even...
