A failed attempt of an "authentic Thai restaurant". A restaurant of this level should be shouting for quality in terms of food and service. We find, the premium price charged was unjustifiable with its poor quality of ingredients, lack of flavour, and severe lack of basic waiter service.
Flavour: Flavour in general was sub-par and you could judge it simply by their Tom Yum which was apparently the star of their dish. Depth of flavour was not there. The taste of Tom Yum should be balanced with savoury sour and sweet that lingers in your mouth. But it was as if we were dining at a "warung", almost like an imitation of "kiub tomyum". Moreover, presentation wise, it was not given any effort at all. No garnishes, nothing.
Ingredients: The shrimps were either not fresh or were overcooked. There was a white pepper tiger prawn dish which was confusing because we ended up with a bowl of soggy vermicelli and 4 flavourless shrimps dugged up inside. The shrimp mango rolls were nothing but an oily and flavourless mess. The fried eggs were underseasoned. None of the seafood ingredients were made star of the dish, instead they were all mellowed down by their cooking.
Service: The waiter appeared unprofessional and impatient. They should hire someone with better communication skills to handle English/Malay speaking customers. They didnt have the courtesy to serve each of us properly, instead just scattered plates of dishes all over the table without confirming our orders . They couldnt even afford to provide tissue napkins on the table and when prompt to do so, all we got were those toilet paper standards one ply tissues. I mean even mamak stalls can do better than that.
With all these 3 elements, if not taken seriously, we feel that the restaurant can easily consume itself within the heavily competitive business of thai food. We hope this review is taken seriously by your team to improve...
Read moreDumbfounded. Was looking at the menu at fried rice section, then I asked the worker if there is pineapple fried rice, and she said “we have, but its 2-3 ppl portion”. So i ordered it to share with my colleagues, even change to no egg (my allergies) and seafood change to chicken since my colleagues allergic to them. Then when I get the order it was a small portion which cost RM33. Nvm, I bring it back to office for myself I guess.
When I opened them, there’s egg in it, so I went back there to ask for a solution. At the same time I tried to request refund which was totally denied. Then I ask if I can change my order of the same amount or even top up to get at least 2 rice for my colleagues to share, also denied cause the supervisor said they already cooking the food. Then I ask if at least I could change it back to seafood (so I wouldn’t waste it even more), he said can’t, and I’m like???? I can’t even change it back to seafood? What a waste!
Not being cheap, but I came here to work and only earns RM100 a day, and RM30 is already wasted on one meal. AND WHICH IT DOESN EVEN TASTE THAT GOOD TO BE A RM33 FOOD.
What pisses me off more is that the way they handle this in a very 敷衍 way, without any sorry too. I know I’m a worker, but I’m your customer too.
I really hope you guys can improvise this and hope nobody will be the...
Read moreDuring my recent visit to Mama Thai, I had high hopes based on the restaurant's reputation, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations and has cemented this as my first and last visit.
The ambiance of Mama Thai is decent but not remarkable. It offered a cozy atmosphere, but it didn’t have that vibrant Thai flair I was expecting.
Now, onto the main aspect – the food. I ordered the Tom Yum Goong, expecting a delightful bowl of flavor, but I was left disappointed. It lacked the depth and authentic zing typically associated with this classic dish. I have had much better versions elsewhere, and the flavors here felt muted and one-dimensional.
The Lime Chili Steamed Squid was even more disappointing. To my surprise, the squid seemed to be of the frozen variety, lacking the fresh, tender quality that makes this dish a standout in Thai cuisine. The texture was rubbery and not at all appetizing; it was a far cry from the freshness I was hoping to experience.
In conclusion, Mama Thai was an underwhelming experience overall. Given the plethora of great Thai restaurants out there, I can’t see myself returning for a second visit. If you're in the mood for Thai, I recommend exploring other options that deliver on both flavor...
