  1. overall - Japanese restaurant located in Sunway Pyramid, offers value lunch set, good services and environment, food selection are salmon sushi set, unagi, chicken karaage and many more from Hana Dining Sake Bar
  2. chicken karaage lunch set - flavourful chicken pieces, deep fried to perfection, fried mashed potato was soft but crispy on the outside, value for money, do opt for garlic fried rice, rice was flavouful and tasty
  3. kani tamagoyaki - flavourful, tasted awesome, loved the fluffy eggs and the mushroom, highly recommended
  4. Jumbo soft shell crab sushi - huge, wrapped well, seaweed was a little less fresh or maybe we rested the sushi for too long
  5. Negime kushiyaki (chicken skewer) - tasted good
  6. Agedashi tofu - tasted ok, soft tofu but the outer layer got soggy after soaked in brine.
  7. salmon claypot rice - tasted ok, a lot of raw cabbage going on, did not like the flavour so much, tasted a little bland
  8. salmon bento set - comes with salad with sesame dressing, garlic fried rice, and potato croquette, bento was presented well, salmon was a little burnt on the skin so it tasted a little bitter, overall fried rice was tasty and potato croquette was always nice and filing
  9. unagi bento set - consistent quality like any other bento set, unagi was soft and flavourful
  10. hot soba with tempura - tempura had a great crisp from the outer skin and inner was with fresh prawn and vegetable, tasted good with the hot soba, soba soup was salty so made it good to good with the tempura after soaked, soba noodle was somewhat tender due to the wheat, overall was great, clear broth and a little oilmen from the tempura
  11. edamame - fresh and simple dish
  12. grilled saba fish - fresh and grilled to perfection
  13. sushi roll - flavourful, fresh ingredient, big portion too
  14. fried noodle - flavourful and soft noodle, recommended
  15. tamago - soft...

The first time I ate here was 5 years ago. Ever since then, I've been revisiting this place (although only every once in a while) since they never seemed to disappoint. But it's safe to say that I won't be coming here again after my last visit.

For some background, they're open all day but their dining area is only open for lunch & dinner time. In between then, you only have the option of sitting at the other area (I guess it's called the bar area).

Anyway, I went in for dinner. During that time, the dining area wasn't open yet but would be open soon. So I asked one of the staff if I can already sit at the dining area. I was thinking that by the time I order & the food is ready, it would be open and it won't make much difference. The staff asked me "how many person" and when I said one, the woman just pointed to one of the tables in the bar area without saying anything else.

First of all, they did not even acknowledge/answer my original question. With the way they pointed to the table, you'd think that they're banishing a dog to the doghouse, or that I came in begging for scraps of free food 🤦‍♀️ and they're only complying begrudgingly. And even if they cannot accommodate my request, wouldn't it be common courtesy to ask "is that ok" while you 'pointed' to the alternative.

Also, I felt like they've reduced the food portion. In the pictures, it's a bit hard to see/be sure. But at least, the salmon belly is visibly less.

Do note that the 3 stars is more of a "cumulative" rating. Before this incident, I would have easily given 5 stars. But based on this visit alone, I would...

I had my late lunch here and ordered sashimi salad without tuna. The reason I made this specific request is because I have a medical condition. When my food arrived I checked with the waiter again to ensure that there was no tuna in my salad. He insisted there was none. Despite the seriousness of my request, the kitchen still prepared my salad with tuna in it even though it was already stated “no tuna” in the order receipt. Unknowingly I ate it and inevitably I had the dreaded allergic reaction.

Once the reaction set in, I called for the attention of the service staff and upon seeing me breaking out in a rash and itching uncontrollably, they immediately offered apologies and took away my salad to be replaced properly this time.

The food in Hana is good as I have ordered oysters, Sashimi and soup besides the doomed salad. But the service is horrible and the service staff needs to undertake customer’s request with due diligence. I felt that the staff didn’t care about how they were serving my food and the reaction given to me was less than professional. My specific requests were made not to put out the service staff but it’s due to a certain condition that needs to be followed and ignorance could result in a fatal incident. I hope the management takes this feedback and make immediate correction to apply understanding, compassion, attentiveness and servitude towards customers.

Please do note that I am writing this feedback while writhing and itching unnecessarily due to your...

Food was pretty good. We ordered salmon sashimi that was amazing. Sukiyaki with extra udon that was alright. I’m not an expert in Japanese cuisine but it seems odd that there was no tofu included, they were very generous with their mushroom and the soup base tasted alright. Desert was the mizu shingen mochi that tasted interesting and pleasant. I guess at this point you must be wondering why did we have it at two stars, despite saying it was alright? Imagine if you had to remind the waiter for your drinks after your sushi has arrived or that when you’re trying to catch the waiters attention but was not able to for whatever reason. Now imagine it’s dessert time, you have set your main meal aside for it to be clear. You’re served the desert but rather than clear the table for you, your waiter leaves instead (picture below). Now imagine you need the bill, you’re nervous because you don’t know how long it’s going to take to get the waiter? Oh gosh you sit there nervously with your hands up thinking, should I be polite and walk up to the staff? Should I shout out like a kopitiam? You get the bill, you think great we are getting the bill that wasn’t so bad and then you see the 10 percent service charge and can only think everyone needs a living. It might be lack of staff or a lack of training, whichever it is. It is a shame that such a lovely evening was let down by the basics and you have to pay for it :(
