Tacos Los Chachalacos Calypso - Zona Hotelera Review
Tacos Los Chachalacos Calypso is a gem in the heart of the Zona Hotelera, living up to its claim of serving “Los Mejores Tacos.” If you’re in the area and craving authentic Mexican cuisine, this spot should be at the top of your list.
Their al pastor tacos are truly to die for. The meat is marinated to perfection, with just the right blend of spices that deliver a bold and flavorful punch. Watching the al pastor spinning on the trompo is mesmerizing, and the addition of pineapple slices takes these tacos to the next level. The sweet and tangy pineapple perfectly complements the smoky, tender pork, creating a mouthwatering balance that keeps you coming back for more.
The tacos are made in the traditional Mexican style, served on soft, fresh corn tortillas, and topped simply with cilantro and onions. This simplicity lets the quality of the ingredients shine through. Every bite feels like a celebration of authentic Mexican flavors.
One of the standout features of Los Chachalacos is their incredible selection of hot sauces. They offer a wide variety, from mild salsas to fiery blends, ensuring there’s something for everyone. Each sauce has its own unique flavor profile, whether you’re looking for smoky, tangy, or spicy—it’s a taco lover’s paradise.
The atmosphere at this restaurant is welcoming and vibrant, making it a great spot to unwind after a day in the Zona Hotelera. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing a quick bite, the combination of authentic flavors, fresh ingredients, and excellent service makes Tacos Los Chachalacos Calypso a must-visit for anyone who loves Mexican cuisine. Tacos Los Chachalacos, conveniently located right in front of Occidental Costa Cancún, serves up traditional Mexican-style tacos done right. Each taco is made with fresh, soft corn tortillas and topped simply with cilantro and onions, allowing the quality of the ingredients to take center stage. Every bite is a celebration of authentic Mexican flavors.
One of the highlights of Los Chachalacos is their incredible selection of salsas. While their spiciest salsa, made with Chile de Árbol, was just okay for me (as someone who loves extra heat), they offer a wide variety of options—from mild and smoky to fiery blends. Their drinks are also worth mentioning, especially the refreshing horchata and the unique lemon-cucumber beverage. And of course, they have Jarritos to complete the experience.
The atmosphere is vibrant and welcoming, making it a great spot to unwind after a day in the Zona Hotelera. There's plety of parking as well.
Whether, you're dining in or grabbing a quick bite, the combination of fresh ingredients, authentic flavors, and friendly service makes this place a must-visit if you're getting tired of the food in the hotel, specially or just wanting to visit the area.

edit: I was forced to write this opinion, below my honest.
The food at Los Chachalacos was quite decent, but unfortunately, our experience was soured by the service at the end.
As we were finishing our meal, the waitress handed both me and my girlfriend QR codes to leave a review. She stood over us, insisting that we rate the restaurant 5/5 and include her name in the review.
When it was time to pay, she repeatedly pointed to a stamp on the bill, emphasizing that the “recommended tip” was 16%. After leaving lower, she was visibly displeased and even asked if we could give more, which felt uncomfortable and inappropriate—especially given the language barrier.
The service itself was minimal—just bringing out the food. Additionally, at the beginning of the meal, we were served appetizers that we hadn’t ordered. The waitress simply asked if we wanted them, without mentioning the price.
Overall, while the food was enjoyable, the aggressive push for reviews and tips left a bad impression. It turned what could have been a pleasant experience into an awkward and...
