Serrano's Meat House — Restaurant in Jalisco

On Friday March 4th I made a 7pm reservation for 4 at Serrano's Meat House on Lazaro Cardenas. Having always had great food at Serrano's, we were excited to dine there again. Husband and I both ordered Kettle One Martinis. What came was a tiny glass with about 1.5oz of vodka. We were shocked as prior martinis there were a normal size. In 3 sips was gone. I asked the waiter to bring a larger martini. when it arrived, and I took a sip it was just icy water.I asked my friend to taste it in case I was being overly critical, and he said it's basically ice water, no vodka flavor at at all. Serrano's was running a Ribeye special which is too fatty for us. Husband ordered a Filet and I ordered the New York. The Filet was gorgeous but I was brought a Ribeye. I said this doesn't look like a New York. I signaled waiter that I had received the wrong steak. He said it is a New York. Well I cut into it and took a bite, it was a fatty Ribeye. Again I asked others to give me an opinion. One friend had also ordered the New York, his had typical New York shape and was a lean cut. He said that mine was is a Ribeye. I called waiter back & asked him to take it to the chef, who sent it back to me and said it was a New York, I said please take it away. So I ate my salad. I can't help thinking the chef should know better, maybe he was over stocked on his fatty Ribeyes and thought his customers were stupid. When check came they had removed the ice water martini and the steak. I am sad but we will never return...

We spend around two months in the winter in Puerto Vallarta, and Serrano's is one of our favorite places to visit.

This time around, the staff and atmosphere haven't changed, they are both fantastic and Pedro is the number one waiter for a reason. He is the best ....period... if you're there and you are being served by him, ask for the Spanish coffee and enjoy the fireshow.

The reason it gets 3 stars this time was the steaks. In years gone by, the 14oz Ribeyes were always a joy to eat with a spectacular taste. They were cooked perfectly, had the most amazing char marks on them, and flavor was legendary.

Unfortunately, the steak I received, while properly cooked ( medium well ), had no char marks on it and was literally a grey slab of protein. This was due to the fact that it was cooked on the outdoor grill set up in front of the restaurant. Obviously, the grill was too cold and did not sear the outside, resulting in a chewey, bland steak.

The rest of the meal was tip top. I always get the baked potato stuffed with cheese, sour cream, and onions. NOM NOM NOM !!....the salads were fresh and tasty, while the plate of grilled vegetables was excellent.

Topped off with the yummy flan and flaming spanish coffee, the meal was ALMOST perfect.

I suspect that this steak was a temporary aberration from their normal gold standard, but I would ask that my steak be cooked on the indoor...

I've been coming here for many years. This time was my last. The older server seems to have an attitude when you ask him for things he looks like he might be in his 60s. He has gray hair and dark skin. He is very rude. My son ordered the steak And didn't want the salad so l asked for some refried beans on the side. He told me there was some refried beans that come out with the chips that he could eat those. We had already ate most of the beans with the chips. I don't think my son wanted to use two pieces of refried beans with his entrée. There was another young gentleman that brought him a side of new refried beans.. that rubbed me the wrong way since l am a server myself. That is something that I would have never said to the customer. When My Bill came, I was going to leave him 25 American dollars which is equivalent to about 500 Mexican pesos. But since he had upset me, I only left him 15 American dollars.. he had the audacity to come back to me and tell me the tip was not enough!!! I then proceeded to give him another $10 so now he received 25 American dollars for horrible service!! I have never in my life!! Maybe if he hadn’t been rude to my son I would have left him a great tip!! Don’t mess with my kids… next time bring what...
