CDMX Eats 2024 #92, Brunch #8: I had been meaning to eat here for a long time, since having a cup of coffee here two years ago. I follow Forte on IG, and while the hype was high, they delivered.
This was one of the best brunched I've had since living (or visiting) here, and the food in general was just 5/5. From what they offer on their menu to how the dishes look to quality and taste, it's all just done so right.
We ordered an americano & cappuccino to start and the huevos turcos & plato de desayuno (c aguacate tatemado + salchicha hecho en casa) to eat. While my americano was closer to standard than wow, my partner's cappuccino was very good (almost closer to a flat white--in a good way).
While both dishes were great, my first bite of the huevos turcos takes the cake. While I was originally a little worried it wouldn't be enough food, the massive (and delicious) piece of pita it comes with immediately assuaged my fears. Speaking of, that slice of pita was probably my favorite part of the whole dish. That's saying a lot because the eggs, yogurt sauce, herbs, and chorizo were (are*) incredible.
The Plato de Desayuno was no slouch by any means. While it all tasted (and looked!) wonderful, I think the toasts and whipped (and salted) butter stole the show here. When I come back, I will likely order the toast and butter alongside a pastry and an espresso (or cappuccino).
Forte's space is quite small and nothing too memorable. With that being said, what they have done with their food/menu really elevates the place as a whole. Service is also above average even though the inside and outside areas are a bit disconnected.
I will be back for more toast and coffee and/or to try their pizza in the very neat future....

Today I ordered their sticky rice bowl with granola and yogurt and fruit. The yogurt had a huge dollop of jam, the fruit was just 4 slices of apple and banana. The portion of rice in coconut milk was tiny. Overall the combination of the flavors was wrong.
But what is more, the granola was partly burnt and had excessive amount of cacao beans which made it unpalatable. So I couldn't eat the burnt flavor and had to return the plate.
What is frustrating is that even though I paid for this overpriced bowl that I didn't even eat, they didn't even care to offer apology or offer a discount, or like "Hey would you like a piece of bread that costs nthg?" . Truly disappointed!!! Just a terrible run business in my opinion.
Their sourdough pizza crust is really great but not the cheese and sauce in it.
Their white sourdough bread is good flavor, airy texture and consistent but there are better ones in CDMX.
They say they make stuff in house but the quality of the ingredients is just commercial things when it comes to corn, cheese and eggs, also same goes for fruit and vegetables.
Chilaquiles - Its just the same store chips, there is no such special nixtamil corn they use in their corn dishes.
Eggs, Cheese, butter - commercial, even though they have the cultured butter, which just means they culture in house.
Their chocolatin - has no airy texture inside, is made with too many layers which makes it like eating a dense layered baklava.
Their coffee is overrated and plus their oat milk they use is just full of...
Read moreTotally chill little spot for great pizza and house ferments. I’d passed by plenty of times, but assumed they were just another coffee shop. My friend turned me on to their fermentation skills. I dropped in for a visit and checked the pizza menu- amazing choices with slight twists on traditional pizza styles made it difficult to decide. I had a delicious masa madre crust pizza with house made (I think) pepperoni, fermented peppers, and fermented honey- WOW!!! Amazing flavors!!! They had a condiment of fermented pepper sauce that was more flavor than heat. I ended up dousing my pizza with it just to add another layer of flavor. To continue the house ferments, I had a glass of their kombucha, which was good but didn’t pair well with the pizza (my mistake). Service was great. Of course they have a coffee bar, but also a small bakery where they turn out some of the best pastries and bread in the city. I can’t wait to return to try more pizzas and take another...
