Probably my favorite restaurant in Kathmandu. Can’t recommend enough.
First came here in 2023 sort of by accident. Me and some trekking buddies wanted to find a restaurant with true, local food. We stumbled down the alley that is mandala street, turned down an event smaller and more nondescript alley, and saw about 15 locals eating and having a blast surrounded by zero foreigners. That was a great sign. We sat down, ordered our food (with recommendations from the staff and local patrons) and enjoyed. Immensely. It was an incredible meal served by super friendly staff and management, with great company from the friendly locals.
I’ve been back to Nepal in each of the two years following, and eaten here at least 3 times on each visit. Never once been remotely disappointed by the food. The staff really appreciates when customers are open-minded towards Newark cuisine and culture, and they sometimes reward those customers with samples of dishes they never thought to order abounded. The staff and patrons are quite friendly and entertaining. I’ve had a few great conversations at this restaurant. At times I wonder whether I like sitting here, drinking, and watching cricket more than I like eating the great food.
In short, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. In a way I hope people don’t come here, because I’d love for this place to forever be my favorite hidden gem in Thamel. But I have to be honest in my reviews, so believe me when I say that anyone who comes to Kathmandu and fails to visit this restaurant is truly missing out.

From the moment we arrived, the staff's friendly and attentive service made us feel right at home. Their knowledge of the menu was impressive, and they were happy to offer recommendations.
The food was simply outstanding. Every dish we tried was bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. Whether you're a seasoned foodie or a curious newcomer to Newari cuisine, Pasa Newari Kitchen is a must-visit.
I wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Kathmandu.

Read moreOne of the worst newari restaurant I’ve ever been to! I’ve tried multiple newari cuisine since I keep visiting nepal quite often, here things went quite wrong! No proper marinated, cold, portioning were quite small! I don’t know how they end up getting such good reviews! Only good thing was that this place is centrally located and easily accessible! We were a group including two of newari from Bhaktapur and they were really embarrassed because it was them who took us to this place! Moreover, this place is not cheap aswell. I hope and I wish things will get better for this restaurant! Because at the end of the day it’s all about customer satisfaction! Overall, I won’t visit this...
