Discrimination – A Very Disappointing Experience
I had a very disappointing experience here as a tourist. I ordered a beer and a pizza, and the waiter (possibly the owner) asked me to pay in advance. When I politely asked why, I was not given a clear explanation. Later, he returned with an excuse, saying that “people who order drinks only cause problems.” But I had ordered food as well. I accepted it, thinking maybe it was some kind of policy, and I was willing to respect the rules.
However, during the next 45 minutes, I noticed that not a single other customer was asked to pay in advance — only me. This felt discriminatory and completely ruined the experience. Instead of enjoying my meal, I felt uncomfortable and unwelcome the entire time. I didn’t say anything in the moment, because I didn’t want to ruin someone else’s day, but the feeling stayed with me.
Most people don’t go to restaurants just to eat; they go to enjoy the atmosphere and experience. Sadly, this place failed completely in that regard. If there truly is a policy about advance payment, it should be applied equally to everyone, not selectively. Otherwise, it creates the impression of unfair and discriminatory treatment.
Totally disappointing. If management insists on treating certain customers differently, they should be honest enough to put a sign outside. At least then, people would know what to expect...
Read moreIt's such a shame to leave this review. Love the friendliness of the staff and the pizza was good but a couple of things completely had me lose good faith.
We asked for water, while it's also on us to know that water isn't free here (lesson learnt), it felt bad faith when they did not share the same especially when it was clear we are visible tourists - it cost us 9 euros for 2 waters which is fairly expensive for a mid range restaurant.
There's a camera in the bathroom directly facing the urinal. I enquired and they shrugged it as 'cause people do drugs' and that I should turn to the left to avoid it seeing me. He also passed it on as 'its something city hall recommended'. I verified, Dutch Criminal Code section 139F proibits is as a criminal offence with zero tolerance. It's something I would likely pursue as it's a massive privacy violation.
I hope the restaurant reads this and makes sure they atleast have the courtesy of apologizing and correcting these missteps, and not lie to their customers about the reason for a camera in a...
Read moreMy brother and family were visiting me in the Netherlands and after a full morning of hustling around Amsterdam, we were looking for a place to eat that... Could seat a party of 7 Had a menu that had selections for very picky 5, 7, and 10 year old Didn't have a long wait, because we all know what happens when kids get hungry...lol I stumbled upon Big Shots and I was super impressed. The immediately offered indoor or outdoor seating (we chose indoor). It was a nice day so lost people were outside. The inside is small and quaint, but can hold large parties. The lady that helped us was sooooo nice and offered to put on cartoons for the kids. The menu was just diverse enough for selections, but not too much to be overwhelming.
We ordered Spaghetti for the 2 younger kids, build your own burger for the 10 year old (ketchup only), 2 AMAZING Smash burgers (one spicy), 1 chicken burger, and large wings. This food was sooooo good. Service was awesome...better than most places we have EVER been. I...
