Café De Dokter in Amsterdam was honestly one of the worst I've had. The place was shockingly dirty — there were dust clumps everywhere, even in plain sight, which makes you wonder how long it's been since the place was cleaned properly. Ffs, move your fat asses and clean the place instead of swallowing chunks of meat and cheese along with shots of appetizers (as if they need). Disgusting place.
To make matters worse, the staff was incredibly rude. From the moment we walked in, we were told — more than once — that we had to order something, as if we had come in just to sit and stare at the dust. It wasn’t said politely either; the tone was pushy and unwelcoming.
I understand that it's a small and historic place, but basic cleanliness and respect for customers shouldn't be optional. Definitely not a place I’d return to...
Read moreI didn't have a very good experience with them. I went there many times during their open hours only to find it close every single time with no signs whether they were on vacation or why they were closed. When I finally went there I was received with an annoyed face and when asked for a menu or list of whiskey I was told there was none and that I should just choose from what I see. Then asked for an advise and was given a dismissively treatment and a rude answer " what you see is what you get". Maybe he was having a bad day but that is no excuse. Went there after the good reviews I saw only to be disappointed. Not to mention there whiskey selection is very basic. Nothing special. If you are looking for whiskey there are much better places to go. Hell, I have better selection at home. 2 star for cosy looking place...
Read moreIt is rare that a bar or restaurant lives up to so many good reviews but Café De Dokter really does. The owners are very welcoming and make you feel at home straight away. It is a small space but I see it as a positive, as like we did you will end up speaking to the people around you which adds to the atmosphere. There is a great selection of beers with a few specials on. We had a Lambic, a triple bock and Abbey beer which were all great and in the proper glasses. There are bar snacks and although we didn't order any the cheese/meat board with extras looked great. Overall a great experience and easy to stay a few hours. A must visit when...
