I went for dinner with the Vomar offer (2nd menu for free) so at least it was relatively cheap, but overall quite a bad experience. The first course (fried appetizers) arrived 45 min after ordering it and they got it wrong (we ate it anyway, not to have to wait another 45 minutes for the correct one). Then it took them one more hour to bring the main course, which was terribly bland (butter chicken and lamb curry). Then half hour more for the dessert, which we had to remind the waitress twice as they forgot every time. I could not even finish it - it was a dollop of rice pudding, without any flavor, clearly microwaved as it was cold in the center and hot in the edges (half hour for that?). They managed to make every course bland despite Indian/Nepalese being a famously spicy cuisine: the rice was stale and dry, the "medium spicy" lamb was tasteless, and the dessert was a joke, just plain bad. But the worst thing was the service - they are nice and smiley, but totally hopeless. They forget everything you order or get it wrong, they forget to bring you a new set of cutlery after removing the old one, they don't ever come and ask you if you want another drink or a dessert, we had to ask for the bill three times... Our whole dinner was about following up on our order and reminding the waitress to please, please bring us our food. We had the feeling that the staff had never worked in hospitality before. If we'd had to pay the normal full price without the Vomar offer, I would have felt ripped off. Avoid at all costs, any other tandoori restaurant in Amsterdam would be a better dining...

Himalayan Restaurant in Amsterdam is a hidden gem that truly brings the rich and comforting flavours of Nepal to the heart of the city. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed with warm hospitality and a cozy atmosphere that made us feel right at home.
The momos (Nepalese dumplings) were some of the best we’ve ever had—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. The thali set was a beautiful combination of traditional curries, lentils, pickles, and rice, offering an authentic taste of Nepal. Every dish was fresh, aromatic, and prepared with care.
Service was fast, friendly, and knowledgeable—the staff were more than happy to explain the menu and share recommendations. Whether you’re new to Nepalese cuisine or missing home, this place is a must-visit.
We left full and happy, already planning our next visit. Highly recommend this spot for anyone wanting to explore real Himalayan flavors...
Read moreExcellent food in modest but comfortable surroundings.
This is one of the closest restaurants we have to us, and we've been here a bunch of times. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food is out of this world. They avoid a lot of the traps of Indian/Nepalese/similar food - nothing is too sweet or too salty, no overcooked curries, but very fresh food with extremely strong and exotic flavors. We would particularly recommend the Aloo Tama Tofu.
Other good points: the service has been uniformly friendly and excellent. There's a small staff so they get a little busy at rush-hour but everything is cooked to order to it's very fresh. The music is excellent - no boring tape on a loop. And they have hot water to wash your hands in - tiny, but a...
