We visited Amsterdam for 3 days between 13th June and 16th june and visited some Amazing places, unfortunately Rick's wasnt Amazing at all. The first night we went it was supposed to be happy hour on cocktails which were advertised at €10 each, there was some confusion over the price of the round and we was overcharged at €12 each cocktail after the lady spent a while fumbling around working out the price. The cocktails were well presented but didn't represent value for money, there was so little drink in the glass as it was filled with ice and a plastic glow up ice cube in a small glass, it lasted about 10 seconds. On the way back past the lady told us it was last orders and asked if we would like any more drinks, we said yes and tried to tell her our order but she walked off mid conversation and started serving other people. The man who I assume is the owner started to clear things away around us, we asked him if we could order some drinks and he grumpily accepted. We ordered 3 Heineken, he slammed 3 half filled glasses down and as soon as he put them on the table he told us to drink them and go, then came back with plastic glasses. He was very rude but we accepted that they were closing and moved on. We had another bad experience with a food place called Steakhouse Amsterdam which we referred to as the rudest place I'm amsterdam, we joked about revisiting the second rudest place in amsterdam (Ricks) thinking it might not actually be that bad, so we visited again during the day and it took about 2 minutes before the same man was instantly rude to my friend again. We had some really nice experiences also so it's a shame that the 2 places mentioned were rude enough to leave a stain on our memories of Amsterdam. Location and setting get an honourable mention though as it looks really nice outside next...
Read moreI've been to a few coffeeshops, but I've never had such a bad and expensive treatment. When I and a friend of mine came in, we saw that all tables were busy, the seller, however, made us think that there were other tables upstairs. Only after we bought some weed he told us that we actually should go outside and go to the Ricks Café if we wanted to smoke. Basically the seller deceived us in order to sell us something. The café is in the same building. We came in and were about to go upstairs, but a girl stopped us and told that we should buy something if we wanted to stay there. Are you kidding me? After we bought a product in a place with the same name we have to buy something else?! So we decided to buy some water. Then we realised we didn't have a lighter. Usually in normal coffeeshops there is always a lighter, rolling paper, filters and a grinder, all of which you can use free of charge. When we asked if they had a lighter she answered: "Yes, you can buy one". In conclusion: we spent 6.50 euros for a lighter and two 30ml bottles of water. And if that wasn't unpleasant enough, the girl was extremely rude and seemed constantly pissed off because we didn't want to spend a lot. The one and only positive thing I can think of is the position, especially if you arrive from the Station. If you have time, don't stop here and go to a less...
