Caucus Restaurant — Restaurant in North Island

We were part of a group eating a set menu.. Started to sit at 7 PM. The food was ok and not bad. We got our starter which was beef salad with asian influence.....there was no asian influence, the salad didn't contain lettuce at all ( only rocket leaves) and there was cheese on top of the beef which was not written/specified on the menu. For the mains, only after 30 minutes they came to told us they didn't have Chicken and instead we can have another dish with lamb which was also different than the chicken ( slightly different salad and no cheese )...for mains we waited at least 1 hour.... Afterwards a long waiting time for the desserts as well and there were no kitchen staff in the kitchen (probably went to chill or smoke ). One probably washing dishes only (perhaps) and one guy just had his hands in pockets doing nothing....... We missed our night walk in Wellington because of this... Summary For a set menu and booking beforehand; kitchen was not prepared at all, long waiting time for each of the foods ( starters, mains, desserts), only being told long time after waiting the one main is out of stock. Some of the food wasn't as stated on the menu. Avoid unless eating for free and you have 4 hours+ or waste. Only saving grace is the happy...

Went there for dinner, ordered a Steak that was more expensive than it needed to be for what you got, which is just steak, no sides or anything. When it wasn’t cooked how we asked we were told the steaks are precooked.

When you pay $40+ for just a cut of steak and they’re pre cooking something that shouldn’t be pre cooked it just isn’t right. When I changed my order to a lamb shank as they wouldn’t re cook my steak, there was plastic in the dish and the chef tried to tell us it was part of the lamb bone when it clearly wasn’t.

The wait staff were helpful and took the meals off our tab since we didn’t eat them. It’s sad because the last few times we ate there the food was amazing. Safe to say we won’t be returning for a pre...

Exceptional service from wait staff who are friendly, efficient and thoughtful.. We had the beetroot starter to share (2 between 4 of us), which was so delicious. With the benefit of himdsight I wouldn’t share next time 🤭 Then the prawn entree and the scallop entree (probably only needed the scallops as it was a beautiful dish and generous serve). I didn’t really have room for dessert but they had me with Apple twist … apples and pastry, yum, complimented by Chantilly cream and icecream…. Mmmm that’s a winner I thoroughly recommend the Caucus, thank you to their talented kitchen team and wonderful wait staff. Lots of surprise and delight moments as the plates landed. Looking forward to going there again...
