One of the finest pho in town
As having a picky wife and being picky myself, every time we wanted pho, we had to drive from AKL to Rotorua to have our usual pho restaurant there. Finally we do not have to do that too often anymore, after came to this talked about AKL pho eatery.
Seeng Daniel, Bee , Lincoln and other fellas having pho from this restaurant, we craved of coming over so many times but because of their business hour MON-FRI, so it was hard for us to manage, especially bring my Asian food lover daughter along.
Now The Courtyard Vietnamese Cafe open from 9:30am Tuesday-Sunday. WHOO HOO!!!!!
Today lunch we ordered x1 Traditional Pho and x1 Chef’s Special Pho, along with Vietnamese iced coffee and iced chocolate.
The pho taste is great!!! Both dishes deliver the finest of pho you can find in City of Sails. The broth is well made. The food quality is one of the finest. DO NOT forget to put their special sauce in your dish to bring up spicy kick in the taste bud.
The daughter finished her apetite with mango sago pudding. The sweetness of the mango and sourness of the pomello cuts the oily taste from the oxtail in the dish and it gives a refreshing end to the meal.
Service is great, feels like eating with family. Even better that the restaurant/cafe offers 2 hours free parking at its area carpark.
We came in at 11:15, customer filled up and nearly full after 12pm. Highly...
Read moreUpon my recent visit to this establishment, I couldn't help but feel a tad underwhelmed by the hype surrounding it.
Opting for the pho, which boasted a 10-hour broth, I was met with disappointment. Despite the lengthy cooking time, the broth lacked the robustness and depth one would expect. Instead, it leaned towards an overly sweet profile that didn't quite hit the mark for me. While the broth may have been simmered for an extended period, it seems the lack of substantial ingredients undermined its potential.
Furthermore, the noodles left much to be desired, with a peculiar musky note that, while not entirely off-putting, was noticeable to a discerning palate. It's worth noting that this might not deter everyone, but as a seasoned food critic, it's certainly something worth mentioning.
In all honesty, I struggle to label this establishment as the pinnacle of pho experiences. It falls short, landing closer to what one might expect at a more average eatery. To draw a comparison, it's akin to the dining experiences one might encounter at Hansan
Despite these shortcomings, I must commend the service, which remained pleasant throughout. However, I regret to say that I won't be singing praises for this place nor planning a return visit...

Absolutely blown away by The Courtyard Vietnamese Café in Newmarket! From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed with genuine warmth and hospitality that instantly makes you feel at home. The service is absolutely fantastic — friendly, attentive, and full of heart.
Now let’s talk about the food — wow. Pho, deep, rich, soul-soothing broth, perfectly balanced with fresh herbs and tender beef — it's everything pho should be. Every spoonful takes you straight to the streets of Saigon.
And don’t skip the coffee — it’s so good. That strong, authentic Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk hits deep — bold, intense, and just the right amount of sweet.
A hidden gem with real Vietnamese soul. If you haven’t been, go. If you’ve been, you’re probably already planning...
