Whenever I go to Bora, I always make sure to get the best coconut ice cream in the island - Coco Mama. But this time, I decided to try their fully vegan ube ice cream shop - Ube Mama. Itās located at DāMall Palangke in Station 2. And itās open from Monday to Sunday from 10am to 8pm. The purple yam or ube is sourced from Aeta farmers who live in Pampanga and Gambles, helping support their livelihood.
The ube dessert they offer has 1 size for 280 pesos, which can be compared to Coco Mamaās medium size. First, they put 2 scoops of dairy-free ube ice cream in a biodegradable cup. The creaminess comes from the coconut milk, taste can be compared to Dan Ericās ube ice cream; they then layer a vegan ube pudding on top of it, salted coconut cream for savory contrast, and lastly they add 5 balls of palitaw for chewiness, and cornflakes for crunch. The portion is good for 2 people. I shared it with my BFF. We both love the texture of the palitaw and the silkiness and real ube halaya taste of the pudding. We didnāt like the cornflakes. It tastes bland. We think itās better if they put crushed graham, it will elevate the flavors more.
Itās refreshing, itās tasty, itās vegan, itās sustainable. Most importantly, it helps our Aeta brothers and sisters. Definitely worth a try! šš šØ
PS.
Sunny Side Group also released Mango Mama last October 14, 2023 which was our 2nd day in Bora, too bad, we werenāt able to try it but itās something to look forward to on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUbe has been my favorite since I was a child and so when I heard the news that Ube Mama opened in Boracay, I made sure I would come back just for that. Itās located at the far end of DāMall. The line wasnāt super long when I went there and got to buy right away. Itās ā±280 and there are two scoops of the ube ice cream with coconut cream and ube pudding on top. Some pieces of palitaw and corn flakes cereal. I wish there were more pieces of the cereal because after a while it gets a bit overwhelming. The serving is definitely for sharing and I did enjoy it. My only complaint is that there was only one person doing the cashierās job and the creation of the treat so when the person was hurrying and put alcohol on, when I ate my ice cream I tasted some of the alcohol on it. I guess itās a one off thing but I do wish the person...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTastes really bland.
The ube ice cream lacked the creamy texture and sweetness one would expect. It tasted bland, without any noticeable cream, milk, or sugar. Grocery store-bought ube ice cream tastes even better.
The ube pudding served on top was similarly disappointing. It lacked any sweetness or richness, tasting like plain mashed ube without any added ingredients.
On a positive note, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They patiently waited for us to prepare our phones to capture a video of the ube pudding being placed on the ice cream.
Each serving is ample for two people, and the prices are reasonable for Boracay.
Overall, while the service was commendable, the dessert itself...
