I've heard many great things about the Bohol Bee farm so I had to try it when I saw it at Moadto Mall.
Service started out lackluster but definitely improved at the end of the meal.
Based on all the hype, I was expecting more. I ordered the honey glazed chicken. The plate presentation was beautiful. I wasn't expecting that type of presentation from this type of restaurant. My general rule of thumb is if the presentation is good that usually means the food isn't great because they're trying to distract you. I hope that wasn't the case here. Unfortunately it was.
The chicken was on the dry side and also very bland. Thankfully there was hot sauce available because it was definitely needed. The purple rice looked "old" like it was sitting there for a while. There were also some hard pieces of rice because it dried out probably from sitting there for a while.
The best part was the homemade ice cream. You have to try the melon flavor ! It's delicious and almost made me forget about the dry chicken and hard rice. Almost.
They charge a 10% service fee.
I'm not sure if this was just an off day but I really wanted to like this restaurant. I might give it a second try before writing it off. But based on my first visit, I do not recommend this restaurant.

Read moreLove the food in this place! During our stay at Alona Beach, we mostly ate here because they had generous servings and quality food.
They give free samplers too -- usually two slices of bread, 2 flavors of spread (we've had pesto & mango and malunggay & honey, which are also available in their store downstairs), and two pieces of "cabcab" topped with tiny slices of tomatoes and grated cheese.
The service is excellent as well. They have a 10% service charge, and every cent of it goes to the staff.
The place is nice. It's on the second floor of the building, and it's divided into an al fresco area and a room with air conditioning.
The store downstairs carries all the goods from Bohol Bee Farm (they have products ranging from insect repellants -- got one and it was effective and organic -- to food/snacks like peanut kisses, honey, dark chocolate with peanuts [a must-try!!], and more). You can do your pasalubong shopping here.
They also have an ice cream store. Their flavors are unique/rare (durian, guyabano, dragonfruit, peanut kisses, etc), but my favorite is salted honey. You can buy their ice cream in cones...
Read moreWow! What a great cafe on the beach!
Buzzz buzzz Cafe is upstairs, which allows for beautiful ocean views. Saw a lot of selfies being taken here.
Downstairs is a shop selling many beauty/health products, snacks and baked goodies. I wanted to buy everything! Beeswax chapstick, great variety of honeys, cassava chips, homemade ice creams, hot sauces, and so many beauty care products!
Baked goods are very tasty. Freshly baked Carrot and squash muffins and different types of breads. I ordered 2 carrot muffins (beware, they have peanuts on top) from downstairs.
Then I made my way upstairs and ordered a corn coffee (Kapi Mais). Was very interesting and tasty. Came in teabag style packaging and brewed with cold water.
I put the coffee trabags in my thermos filled with water and had more corn coffee later the same day.
I highly recommend this place, even if you just come for the views and homemade ice creams (very popular!)
They have a full menu but not many...
