Absolutely Disgraceful Experience – Tourists Beware
We stopped at this restaurant in Lagos hoping to enjoy a peaceful breakfast and the beautiful weather, but it turned into one of the most humiliating experiences we’ve ever had while traveling. I ordered an Americano, and the waiter responded rudely, telling me to “go to America if you want to drink an Americano.” He refused to give us a menu, and instead of helping or guiding us, he started yelling at us to order coffee in Portuguese.
As tourists, we don’t expect everyone to speak English, but we do expect basic courtesy. Screaming at guests, especially in a public setting, is completely unacceptable. Everyone around was staring at us, and it was incredibly embarrassing. Despite the appalling service, my husband still left a tip – which, frankly, this waiter did not deserve.
If this place only wants to serve locals or Portuguese-speaking customers, they should put up a sign and not subject international guests to such hostile treatment. This incident completely ruined our morning and left a bitter impression of what was otherwise a wonderful trip to Portugal.
Do yourself a favor and skip this place – it’s not worth your...
Read moreI always try and write a balanced review as negative reviews can affect people’s livelihood. In this instance I’m going to break my rule. Just walk past this place without stopping. Save your time and money. I had the steak from the menu last night with some friends (who also had an awful meal: fish) and I might as well have been eating my own shoe leather. The waiter had the audacity to tell me it was my fault because of the way I wanted it cooked but perhaps you call that good customer service? The potatoes were like bullets and the whole thing was drowned in an unpleasant sour sauce. The fish was extortionately priced for what it was, dry and tasteless. There was very little atmosphere and the staff not particularly friendly. Overall a very poor and...
Read moreOur second trip here - incredible food, wonderful service and great location (we went to the one on the canal). We and our Portuguese friends had barnacles (first time for my wife and me - very tasty), seafood mayonnaise, and Dorado (whole fish - served at the table to each of us from the fish plate - great presentation). We brought our US friends the second time and had clams, seafood mayonnaise (could eat a ton of this), no barnacles (they don’t serve food unless it is fresh!), and Cherne. My friend, a very picky eater, declared it was “the best meal by far” after a week of Portuguese cuisine! If you come to Lagos and don’t eat here, extend your stay just for this incredible experience. Definitely on our...
